That really shows how good Garrett is.  One of the few that has lived up to the pre-draft hype at that position.

to me it was honestly a very eli manning-esque performance. a few bonehead plays, moved the chains, made a couple really nice throws, not a lot of yards, 2 td's. eli was rarely a 300 yrd 2 td qb.

if he keeps doing this he'll be fine. i still think you need to start looking for his replacement unless he REALLY turns it up. Nabers is an absolute superstar and will be a top 5-10 WR by end of the year. love to see it.

Quote from: Philosophers on September 23, 2024, 09:43:39 AMI am down on the current NFL game in which YPC and YPA and sub 200 yards are so low across the NFL.  Frankly, a very boring style of football to watch.  I miss the days of 13.0 YPC and 300 yard passing games.  Game needs to be more vertical, not a 5 yard throw with fingers crossed to a small guy.
I agree so sorry if this is a repeat post. But the two high safety (aka cover 2) is shutting down the long pass. Scoring is down across the league and many experts will tell you that defense is the reason . Mel Kiper has publicly called on the NFL to ban that defense.

Why not? Baseball tinkered with the shift. Basketball has implemented several rule changes to increase offense. Football and its Competition Committee needs to do something. Terry Bradshaw made a career out of the long pass to Lynn Swan. That magical duo would struggle in today's NFL.

I am really losing my patience with people who dog Eli Manning to prop up Daniel Jones.

Eli Manning was top 5 in yards/ top 5 in TDs at one time or another. He was at least like top 10 in those categories for a number or years. Daniel Jones has not done that once.

He may not have had them all the time -- but at least he had some. And must have had them quite a bit.

Amazing what an actual NFL receiver and competent NFL OL can do for a QB ain't it ???

And we're also getting good results from our RB.....

Sure, Barkley has 150 yards more rushing, but with 20 more carries...

That money was well spent elsewhere to help Jones...

We should be 2-1

Quote from: JT39 on September 23, 2024, 11:22:12 AMIf Jones averages 2 TDs and 250 combined yards for the rest of the season that would put him over 4000 combined yards and over 30 TDs.

Will it happen? Probably not. But those are numbers that would be pretty impressive.
In his best season Jones averaged like 166 yards a game and less than a pass td a game, so him putting up 250 and 2 tds would be quite the step up but I don't think it saves him. Sam howell put up 4,000 and the Commanders still drafted Jayden Daniels.

Eli is 11th all time with 107 2 + TD games in 236 starts, 45% of his career starts he had 2+ TD's.

Eli TD's per game are as follows:

6 TD's - 1 (tied for 10th)
5 TDs - 1
4 TD"S - 12 (12th All Time)
3 TD"s - 49 (10th All  Time)
2 TD's - 44

Throwing 373 TD's in all
BTW Eli had 51 300 + yards games in his 236 starts, 21%

Keep in mind Eli ran one of the most complex Offensive systems in the history of the NFL, many of his INT's had TC in the presser saying Eli's throw was to the proper location.  Receivers had to make a presnap read and often despite how poor the throw appeared it was Eli who placed it at the proper location but the WR didn't make the right read and run the proper route.

Jones runs an offense with training wheels on it. About as simple as it gets. Can not even compare what the two were asked to do.

People citing total career stats for Eli Manning are forgetting that Eli is 10th all-time in games played.

So, discussing total yards or touchdowns is statistically meaningless. You should instead discuss TDs or yards per game.

As you requested
Jones has 1.03 TD's and 208 per game (Regular season in 63 games)
Eli has 1.5 Td's and 241 yards per game (Regular season in 236 games)

that being said the notion of comparing Eli to Daniel is ridiculous on a multitude of levels

It was also a different league back then more focused on the running game, hence the Giants at times having a 3 headed monster at RB of Ward/Jacobs/Bradshaw.  You won't find a team like that in today's NFL with 3 starting caliber RBs all sharing carries.  It's a silly comparison.

I remember Eli's rookie year he audibled out of a pass to a Tiki run at the goal line to win the game.  I thought then wow, kid really knows his stuff.  Saw the defense, knew the pass wasn't going to work, called a play that did, they won the game.  I bring that up because I was at the week 1 game.  The Giants at the goal line.  The defense had been doubling Nabers the entire game but down there he was out wide and no safety on that half of the field.  It was pure 1 on 1.  I said, either audible or don't audible and just throw it out there 1 second after the snap and it's a TD.  Instead he runs the play as called and they get nothing.  This is year 6 for Jones.  These two guys are not the same.

The HoF voters disagrees with you; they consider aggregate numbers.  Btw, a long career in itself is another plus that should be considered.  If the Hall considered averages per game, Sterling Sharpe would have a gold jacket.

If you've been to Akron, you'll note the players career numbers are displayed, not their averages per game.

@B1GBLUE said Sunday's game was very Eli Manning-like.   Based on the averages provided, DJ's 236 yards and    2 TDs were, in FACT, very Eli Manning-like despite the protests to the contrary.

That explains why he is never on the same page as his receivers. I think my Dad didn't like him because he seemed to whine too much to his receivers. I Don't think anyone actually compared total Stats. I also think it is weird to average them. It just seemed to me Eli had a much higher ceiling. Daniel Jones at like 220 yards and 2 TDs -- from what it seems to me is as good as it gets.

This seems to sum it up:

6 TD's - 1 (tied for 10th)
5 TDs - 1
