Quote from: katkavage on September 24, 2024, 05:58:11 PMBad contracts abound. What difference does it make to the Giants that the Jags screwed up? Just win.

It doesn't. This thread is about comparing the two players. Not about the fact that the Giants need to win games, which I'd say is kind of obvious.

Quote from: katkavage on September 24, 2024, 05:23:26 PMNow aren't we happy and grateful that Daniel Jones is the Giants QB and not Trevor Lawrence. I mean see how much better the Giants have been with Jones. Whew dodged a bullet there. Not that the Giants were ever considering Lawrence or could consider him. So there's that too

The Giants constructed DJ's contract to replace him this season; the Jags have a lot longer commitment.  I'll take our situation over there's any day!

I've been a Giant fan forever but I don't get celebrating the inadequacies of other franchises when all we, as Giant fans have to do is look in the mirror.

Well said Kat. It's because the Jones lovers feel the need to try to make him look not as bad as most people think he is, like the OP.By comparing him to others who are also losers, does that make Jones any better?
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

It's not even about Jones, Lenn
I just don't get mocking other team's moves or mistakes. Until the Giants are perennial winners, who are we as fans to make fun of other teams.Ans even then, who cares? We should only concern ourselves with our own mess.

Nobody here is "mocking" the Jags. That is not the point of what people in this thread are saying. People (including myself) are contesting the idea that noting the similarity between Jones' and Lawrence's stats is somehow a feather in Jones' cap. It is most definitely not. Lawrence has been a disaster for the Jags. The head coach publicly hinted about benching him after this most recent performance. If anything the comparison is an insult to Jones, who has been respectable in his last two games, unlike Lawrence.

No one here is looking to to mock the Jags. The point is that comparing our QB to theirs is not a positive statement for our QB, despite the attempt of the tweet in the OP to make it that. It is most definitely a negative statement. Mockery has nothing to do with any of this. It is a qualitative discussion.

Forgot about Lawrence's contract.

SHIITE!  They stuck with him through 2028.

Jones stinks but "what about that Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville! Let's post misleading stats and let the masses argue!

It's worth noting how both QBs are doing this season:

Jones 600 yards, 4 TDs 2 INTs 52.7 QBR 80.6 QB Rating

Lawerence 560 yards 2 TD 1 INT 43.1 QBR 75.1 QB Rating
SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

How is that different than what we usually have, which is to compare DJ to the top 1 to 3 QBs in the league?

Because misery loves company?
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

I have come away mostly unimpressed when watching Lawrence.  Certainly my expectations play into it and I thought he was going to be a top tier NFL QB.  I don't see all of his snaps or games but when I do watch it feels like he is missing throws high pretty often.  And some of those are 3rd downs or passes into the endzone with open receivers.

Also feels like his processing is not top tier, but the high throws stick out.

These posts/nicknames are meant to disparage Trevor Lawrence, not lift up Daniel Jones.  ie, look how terrible Trevor Lawrence is, he's like the blond Daniel Jones.  For what it's worth.

Philosophers

Lawrence entered league as "generational" talent moniker so his failing is significantly worse to their fans than DJ failings are to us.

In addition to Lawrence - let's throw Burrow into the mix. He has arguably the best WR tandem in the league; regardless, he's been awful. Just goes to show that having two of the highest paid QBs in the league doesn't guarantee success. It's still a team game.
