It's pathological. Especially when we keep getting the same excuses from the same fans year after year.

The Giants have 35 wins in their last 100 games. Only the Jets, Panthers, and Jaguars are worse. It hasn't gotten better and won't get better until they address the QB position. Until then we will remain on this treadmill that goes from terrible to mediocre back to terrible, over and over again.

It isn't pessimism to properly assess a situation. You can't fix a problem if you don't acknowledge the problem exists.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on September 27, 2024, 04:49:04 PMThe majority of NFL games "could" have gone the other way. Good teams execute in the big spots and turn those iffy situations into wins. Bad teams don't. We are very obviously the latter, and we have been for some time now.

No question, Dave

KC screws around in games, make mistakes, yet still have the presence to execute in key spots..and win.

Now Mahomes is a huge factor..but your qb has to be. And the confidence he radiates. Never will happen with Jones, plus I think he's diminished.

Can't sprint like before...his deep balls have no clue, now no Nabers? Yipes. I think we're looking at another reboot. Sad but true.

Why do some fans feel the need to keep making excuses for losing?

Because it's very hard for some to admit they are wrong. Simple as that.

And you forget hand grenades and the pin has been pulled on this regime. Maybe the team should not come from Germany..just stay for Oktoberfest

Very well said, Doc.

It's only been four games, but so far this year Jones has enjoyed very good if not excellent pass pro and has an elite stud receiver in Nabers. He also has the same guy calling plays for him who called plays for Josh Allen in Buffalo as he ascended into stardom in the NFL.

And yet Jones' numbers so far are not only not good, they're even worse than his own career numbers, which clearly aren't good. Consider:

80.8 QB rating (84.9 career)
4 TDs/3 INT (66/43 career)
6.1 YPA (6.6 career)
66.7 PFF grade (70.8 avg in first 5 years)

I could go on but you get the idea.

The point here is that this notion that Jones is actually this really good QB who just hasn't had enough help around him has fallen flat with a thud. The above numbers quite simply speak for themselves.

I felt there was solid evidence last year of Jones' true abilities when he was vastly outplayed by other QBs on his own team after his injury. Many refused to acknowledge this evidence though, citing excuses like his having to have played a tougher schedule than Taylor and Devito or that the line suddenly magically played better immediately after Jones got hurt, or that Andrew Thomas missed some games, etc etc. The idea that Devito and Taylor with their paltry salaries (compared to Jones') were even close to him, let alone better, despite any of the above excuses, was damning. And yet many just didn't want to see that. This year, there really is no defending his play (if there was in any previous year).

Is Jones the only problem on this team or in the organization? Of course not, but nobody is saying that. There are many things wrong, both on the roster and inside the walls of the organization. We saw this with our own two eyes on Hard Knocks.

And nobody is saying that if the team drafts a first round QB next year that that QB will definitely be good. But it should be painfully clear now to everyone, even the most ardent defenders, that Jones needs to be replaced. Anyone who still thinks building the next several years around Jones is a great idea needs to take a serious look at that stance, look at all the data, and ask himself if he really, actually believes that.
