Giant Obsession

Either an act of stupidity or insanity.

Fortunately both of these appear to be in great supply for our flagship franchise.

That means we are making the playoffs. Sweet  =))

Quote from: kingm56 on October 03, 2024, 09:55:16 PMI dont believe that's accurate. You had a very vocal minority making those claims; however, it was limited to a few posters.  Most posters clearly understood the giants were not drafting a QB, at least not without a trade.  Most were ticked off we won 6 meaningless game, which was the reason jones is still on the roster.
There are a few Giants fans who are not on this site.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on October 04, 2024, 04:44:05 AMI didn't read anything that suggested they would move on next year.

The deal had an exit after 2 years. They clearly tried to trade up in the draft.

I don't know why this presumptions are so hard to swallow.
I didn't read anything from anyone with any credibility that they would move on this past off-season.  But, there were plenty of people calling for it.  Again, not necessarily on this site.  I have been saying since the day the deal was signed, it was a 2 year deal with two 1-year team options and he will never play the 4th year.  If he lives up to the deal, they would re-work that 4th year.

The question, "What would it take to retain Jones?" could not be any simpler or clearer.

It did not ask anyone to praise or to make excuses nor was it meant to be opportunity for the more meanspirited among us to engage in vituperation and hate as if displaying one's personal conceit is somehow worthwhile. But then it's not as if everyone can claim focus and self-control as an asset.

Cheers!

Nothing he's as good as gone. That's 100% a fact. You can't have a player this produce so little and gobbling up so much money. Best scenario is the giant skin extremely high first round pick, Which would mean our second round pick would be high as well. First round get the best quarterback that's available and in the second round, get your running back.

No one here knows what the Giants are going to do. It's still too early for even the Giants to know. Let the year play out then we'll know. My suspicion is that the Giants like Jones far more than the fan base does.

They can say whatever they want publicly, they know he is done, they would not have tried to trade up for a QB on television if they werent ready to move on.

They will win some games with him, but they know he limits the offense and what they want to do.

The only QB we know that at least Daboll would have traded up for is Jayden Daniels who is playing lights out

They tried to trade up for Maye also. Though he is extremely TBD, could go either way with him since he is a complete unknown.

Maye is a rumor that has never been confirmed or verified.  It's possible they wanted Maye, but all we have is draft rumors, which can be notoriously unreliable. With Daniels, we got it straight from the horse's mouth.

On Hard Knocks we saw Schoen make the call to Wolfe and probe what it would take to move up. No official offer was made but they were interested enough in Maye to at least make the call.

We don't know if the intention was Maye or Daniels.  There was no guarantee that Washington would draft Daniels

Jones played very good the last two games.  .... keep him ? not sure yet but we (giant fans) are much more critical of him or any Giant QB because we watch them week after week...I have watched other QB 's that some say are just awesome and only if Giants had a QB like that..... However, if we were to see every play every week by some of those QB's we would see there mistakes as well....I watch a lot of other games ...(have to have ticket to watch Giants ) and I watch as I am in fantasy league so I will often watch games my players are playing. Every QB makes mistakes /bad throws , ball thrown behind receiver etc . etc. Yes they are good but look at Prescott last night....two very poor int's. one inside red zone...watch Daniels yesterday ...some very good throws but bad throws as well .. and I would bet that if the Giants lost yesterday...some would have blamed Jones because they went three and out when they had a chance to get first down and ice the game.
how many times did that happen when Eli was playing ? many many times.
Keep Jones ? I am not sure yet but if his decent play continues he might be a worth a trade if Giants decide to move on from him .( Giants would likely have to eat some of his salary if traded)

Quote from: AZGiantFan on October 03, 2024, 11:45:25 AMI think it would take a near MVP level performance over the balance of the year.

I don't think that the combination of performing at the level of the last three games and there not being a viable path to drafting a high quality QB prospect would do it.  In that case I think they cut him, pick up a retread like Carson Wentz or Andy Dalton and hope the QB draft picture looks better in 2026.

It seems like DJ is getting better every week as he gets more comfortable with his line and new receivers.  Throw in his ACL recovery continuing, and I suspect (barring injury  :knockONwood: ) that DJ will continue to improve and will reach his full potential by season's end.

Based on DJ's and the Giants' history, I don't think the decision will be clear-cut, and there will be plenty of disagreement to talk/debate about moving forward.
