It was nice to see Jones recognize the opportunity and pull the trigger on those two deep balls

The M2M on outside off of trips to Slayton was a nice outside long throw and the recognition and placement on the over route for the TD was excellent.

Jones is still taking WAY too many unnecessary hits. Some is a result of dopey Daboll calling silly QB option plays which the defense is anticipating. He should only call these type plays at critical junctions. His QB is gonna get seriously hurt if he continues on this path

I would put more blame on DJ for being too aggressive and not protecting himself properly.  The extra yards are nice but not worth the injury risk and pounding DJ absorbs

Perhaps. But some is also coaching the slide, throwing it away (he did this a couple times) and for heaven sake let's stay away from so many QB keepers early in the game. He is gonna get hurt.

It's my belief that the Giants are interested in drafting a QB because of a genuine concern that injuries could end Jones' season and perhaps his career. As Gettleman stated: injured players get injured.

It was no secret they coveted Drake Maye. Living in New England - Maye has been terrible so far. He's been unable to unseat a mediocre Brisette with alarming inaccuracy (which happened to be one of his scouting concerns).

On ESPN the other day, Mel Kiper was lamenting the fact that picking college QBs is the ultimate crapshoot. Perhaps this is a cautionary tale to those who want a high Draft pick to select a QB. There's no guarantee that anyone will be able to unseat DJ as the starter. Just can't see the Giants releasing DJ and then relying on a Free Agent and/or Draft pick to be their starter in 2025.

In contrast, Geno Smith's decision to slide a yard short on a critical third down play, without a defender within two yards, probably cost them the game.  I'd rather have an aggressive QB....

What makes us think the Giants can draft a qb

gregf

First 2 games, I was a firm we need to move on from Jones view. Last 2 games I have softened some.  As of now, I'd love the Giants to be able to grab the guy in the next draft, to the point of trading draft capital to do it.
Like others have said, let's see consistency and more deep ball accuracy. I believe it's an uphill battle, but let's see what he can do.  Can we win 8 or 9 games, eclipse 4000 in yards and close to 30 TDs?
BTW, Schoen nailed it upgrading the o line and #1 target

More of yesterday really. He looked a real threat and was great to see.

Whilst the Dallas game looked good on paper, they didn't threaten the end zone.

So more of yesterday and the Giants will have a decision to make.

The Bengals leaked a ton of points Sunday, hopefully the Giants can have some success.

Plenty of season left to decide but there's also plenty of time for an injury that could make the decision for them.  I think Schoen and Daboll would like to bring in their own rookie QB and rebuild the team around the QB rookie wage scale.  This team needs a good CB and DT to take some of the load off Dex and probably another RB and TE and another OL unless Evan Neal steps up to the plate.  That's a whole lot if needs but doable if they can find a QB in the draft who can contribute quickly.  Also, Schoen's last draft seems very good into the late rounds so maybe he has the hang of it.  I don't see Jones taking enough of a pay cut to make this happen

Philosophers

Ask yourself this question.  Ignoring results, do you like Schoen and Daboll?  I happen to think they work well together.  I like them, therefore I want to see them succeed.  I feel the same with DJ.  He seems like a good person.  If he is successful defined by me as top 10-12 and they go 0.500, I'd be thrilled to see them deploy high draft picks for other positions to make the team better.

As Matt said, the Giants are improving and getting close.  I think they need another draft with similar 2024 draft results of having 3-4 picks become starters or very valuable contributors.

Imagine a CB1 with Banks sliding to CB2 or vice versa, a 3 tech DT alongside Dex, a young, promising guard or tackle, etc.

I think DJ is his own cautionary tale

The reality is if Jones can stay healthy and if he just marginally improves on this, he is likely to be retained

Jordan Schultz
@Schultz_Report
Daniel Jones in his last 4 games:

▪️ 92/136 passing
▪️ 67.65% completion percentage
▪️ 952 passing yards
▪️ 6 TDs
▪️ 1 INT
▪️ 99.3 passer rating

It's great to see him having success and keeping his head up. Brian Daboll is coaching his a** off, and Sunday's win in Seattle without Malik Nabers was extraordinary. Tyrone Tracy, Darius Slayton and Wan'Dale Robinson all looked great, and the defense, led by Dexter Lawrence, was outstanding. The offensive line has also started to ease in.

Good for the Giants. Could be the start of something.

Consistency in development is a must, IMO.

In the past, apparent develop was often negated by regression, not lapses as much lengthy trends.

Considering Daboll has worked with Josh Allen and other good QBs, and wanted Jayden Daniels, it seems we have a good eye for talent at the position.
