Quote from: Giantleap56 on October 07, 2024, 01:22:49 AMThe Giants were about to go into OT because Daboll took the foot off the pedal. Everytime the Giants get up by two scores he goes stupid conservative. Starts calling ridiculous plays and gets scared of turnovers and just goes ultra conservative. I'm telling you Daboll almost cost the Giants a  5th game.
1. Unprepared for the opener
2. Didn't carry a kicker in vs Washington.
3. Stopped playing in the second half of Cleveland game a lot closer than should have been.
4. Didn't attempt one damn play in the end zone vs Dallas after marching up and down on them.
5. Took two score lead and stopped playing in order to go stupid conservative allow Seattle to come close to pushing OT. Simmons basically saved his ass.
Daboll need to be aggressive and two scores need to become three and three needs to become four. Be aggressive!
Even if Seattle makes that FG they still have more to do to win that game. The Giants completely beat down the Seahawks for 90% of the game. The fumble at the goal line was a 14-point swing. Without it, this game would have been won with ease.

What I want to see is continuous improvement. We are getting that and the wins will come with it. I thought the blocked FG was the sign of a big step for this team. I've said for too long that it isn't about playing well. They have to make plays. I won't go so far as to say they turned the corner, but it is a big step in the right direction. There is good reason for optimism if you look forward instead of backwards.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant - Robert McCloskey (if he were on this Forum)

DJ locks onto his first read, with no Nabers, they had to spread the ball around a bit. I am glad to see Theo involved though.

We all want Hyatt to get touches, but he is a one trick pony, and our QB doesn't and/or can't throw deep anymore, so its oil and water. Slaytons route tree and skillset is more diverse and less one dimensional so he is a better fit for DJ.

Quote from: Trench on October 07, 2024, 05:34:00 AMHe definitely gets credit. Just win baby stuff yes. But I am merely saying I don't think it was because of anything in particular he did. That's not saying I'm not giving the man credit because I do. But we won today because the oline, RB, QB, pass rush, kid CB, and K.

Daboll screwed up by not at least using a timeout on the 3rd down run into she end zone before the fumble play. Easily should have been at least a challenge. He also stopped going to the TE in 2nd half. He won. That's all that counts so yes, he gets credit.
I'm not sure what "just win baby stuff" is. Seattle is notoriously loud for opposing teams to play in. Did the Giants have any problems with the noise? I don't recall any delay of game penalties or having to call timeout because of the clock or not being able to get plays in. The announcers said Daboll was standing in the huddle during practice yelling while Jones was trying to relay the call. Daboll also gave Jones two plays so he could visibly audible to the team if he didn't like what he saw. It appeared the double tap on his helmet was the audible and he did that several times throughout the game and it worked.

He's been criticized for not having this team ready, and I agree with some of it, as I have called out the lack of pre-season playing time and other play calls. This team showed they were ready from the time they took the first snap and marched down the field with precision. The league owes the Giants an apology for that BS fumble call. The team kept their composure and played well in all aspects.

I know I sound like a Daboll apologist, and maybe I am. He's a good to very good coach. He's taken accountability for his shortcomings, made changes to his coaching staff where he thought they needed to be made, and now we're seeing progress from those decisions. He's continuing to learn from his mistakes and the improvements each week shows that he hasn't lost the team and what he's doing behind the scenes and on the sidelines is working.

That's not to say he's a GREAT coach. But he is what this team needs right now. Somehow, some way, they need to get an upgrade at QB. Once they do, this offense will thrive.

I suspect Nabers missing the game forced the offense to spread the ball around a bit more.  Hopefully Daboll will not forget the TEs when Nabers returns

I like the premises of what you state here. I can be swayed. But as of now I just have seen too many mistakes from Daboll that I don't see from other "even much younger less experienced coaches make"....his QB is taking too many hits, he is NOT learning how to slide feet first. He is still locked onto receivers, his RBs fumble too much (Tiki said the ball should be held higher - that's coaching)...I still think we scored on the 3rd and goal in 1st quarter and in the least he should call timeout to get more replay looks. CBS was a disaster and has been with its 3rd string production crew so that doesn't help.

If Daboll gave him 2 plays with the helmet tapping, then I'm thrilled but I'd ask "what took so long to implement this?"...the TE needed to be used in weeks 1-4 and wasn't. I've been highly criticized on BBH for endlessly campaigning for the TE and Hyatt to get shots. Many even said our TE room is extremely subpar. Maybe some of this should be directed to Jones perhaps??...we almost gave the game away with the prevent defense. Daboll should overrule the coordinator on this. Do we really believe we would have won in OT if the kick isn't blocked?....i don't. It was 50/50 at best.

Just Win Baby stuff is simply to mean no matter how much I criticize Daboll as a fan, if he wins then HE is right and I'm WRONG. Bottom line same as QB. If they win they must get the credit. So I am perhaps contradicting myself and I apologize for that. I just need to see the go for it on 4th down Daboll we saw in week one his first year (and he did it yesterday too) instead of the Daboll who was scared to go for it in Giants stadium on his 50 yard line 4th and 3. So maybe you're right - he's improving. I'll take that.

I think some of the things you mentioned are unfairly being held against him (TE and Hyatt not being used, RBs fumbling, QB taking too many hits, etc).

Still a lot of football to play.

Perhaps you're right. If not Daboll then who gets the fault though?

LOL

I look for improvement from week to week. And there's still plenty to be made. Each situation is different and the reasons for failure are different. Yes, ultimately it all falls on the head coach but the players are the ones on the field.

Quote from: Trench on October 06, 2024, 05:40:25 PMI wish he went to him a little more. Same as I wish he went to Nabers a little less.

Why can't he find a happy medium for both players?

I have a hunch that after this week, they'll balance the offense a little more.

They have seen how this can work either way.
