Quote from: katkavage on October 11, 2024, 02:49:28 PMFor the most part he has protected the ball very well. Though taking chances down the field and getting picked off once in awhile is not the worst thing. He is very accurate in the 5-20 yard game. That's great if your running game is working. If not, you won't score many points living in that zone. He has definitely lost a step in his running game and for god's sake when will he learn how to slide to absorb the hits he will get better. I'd give him at best a B minus so far. He should improve his statistics this Sunday against a very weak defense.

I wouldn't quibble with a B- type overall grade for the 5 games.

His QBR is over 60.3 ranking him 12th in the league

And

His passing yardage total is 1138, ranking him 11th respectively.

While it doesn't paint the whole story, in a number of categories he's on the brink of being a top ten QB.

Hey SXD,

Noted, and fair enough.

Actually, in the post I just made, I stated I wouldn't quibble with a B- grade for his total season so far. And I think your post above helps illuminate that. Some of his metrics are decent/solid. Others are below average. Seems like netting it all out in the roughly B- zone is pretty fair here.

Clearly, if he has more performances like the one this past Sunday, or better, that average grade will go up.

What would you grade him for the last 4 games?
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

Either a B or B+. I'd need to spend a bit more time on it, but it would be one of those two grades.

Curious your thoughts tonight after the disgrace of a QB we witnessed tonight. 7 points, no TDs for 2 years

Philosophers

Here is my unemotional view:

QBs - DJ makes a play here or there but equally makes a bad decision here or there as well.  INT near the endzone as an example.  He rarely makes the "great" pass.  Conclusion - can't be a SB team with this level of performance.

WRs - Slayton is too damned inconsistent.  Drops as many catchable passes as he catches.  After today, I think Hyatt will never be NFL developed or NFL smart.  Now I see him as just taking a roster spot.  Sad he has not developed.  Nabers is obviously a keeper and so is Robinson around the LOS.  It makes me crazy that the Giants missed on Andrei Iosivas out of Princeton (40 minutes from Meadowlands) who is now a very valuable, big, good hands, fast #3 WR.  We signed BFW but passed on Iosivas.  Imagine him instead of Slayton.

TE - sorry but we meed more explosiveness out of our TEs.  Neither Bellinger or Johnson look anything but a lumbering TE.

RB - Tyrone Tracy has now shown he needs to be our RB1.  I see him like the Lions Gibbs. I's like to see us draft a beefier North-South RB like a 235 pounder who punishes.  Use two but feature Tracy.  He needs 25 touches per game.

Jones:

"We'll look at the film and see
 where we can improve"

Weak Daniel. For a 6 year QB who had a chance to win at home on national tv, with the ball in YOUR HANDS in the 4th quarter, I find YOUR comments weak and actually disrespectful. If you still need the tape to figure it out then I was wrong about you

I finally watched the game, and may I ask a few questions?

When Daniel Jones hit Darius Slayton on a 56-yard catch-and-run that brought the ball deep into Bengals territory, who was the ineligible man downfield penalty called on?

When Daniel Jones drove the team down for a game tying field goal, who was it that missed the field goal?

Great points. You're correct on this.

But he couldn't throw a TD pass and again wilted in prime time. He played horrible. The middle was wide open again and he never saw it.

Ultimately he couldn't do enough to win

Even the beginning of the game when he blew a scoring chance with a horrible interception.  He later said he got hit while trying to throwing it out of the back of the end zone.  So went away from his first look Tracy to turn into pressure and then attempt to just waste a down.  This is why he can't score at home.  The guy is garbage.

He's not garbage. He just won't get you where you want to go if you want to have sustained wins in the NFL. He's not good enough. Never has been. But this is a broken record. He will go on this year if he remains healthy and have some very nice competent games. But if you expect anything more, you haven't been watching.

What about the many overthrows, abysmal INT, and countless wide open receivers he didnt throw to?

Thank you, and yes you may be correct about the middle being open and he didn't see it, but I'd have to re watch it.

This is not an excuse, but Burrow had Jamar Chase and Higgins playing, while Daniel Jones never had Malik Nabers, so it wasn't exactly a fair match up.

11 more games to go, let's see how this transpires
