But wish what you may   :surrender:

This a good point; however, I'm not sure it's true.  If the Giants start a backup QB against Cinci, I think they win.  Last year, Devito won more games than Jones, costing us a chance to draft J. Daniels.  Ironically, starting DJ may give us our best chance to draft his replacement; however, the injury clause is a "Giant" concern.

After 9 pages I am going to answer OP:

No we cannot agree

I can't believe a thread with a vague click bait title went this long. I cannot stand thread titles like this. It's a cheap way to force us to read the OP since you don't know what it's about.

But carry on. That's they way it is here.

I guess we can put you down for a disagree?

But you've known what it's all about for 9 pages yet you are still in the thread.  Curious.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

We need to have patience here, as time will show us if he is the future or not

SXD,

Jones has been our QB for almost five and a half seasons, a total of 65 starts to date in the NFL. The results seem pretty clear to me, but, based on the above, they apparently do not to you. Respectfully, and bearing in mind he is a $40mm AAV player, how much more time do you need in order to decide if you think Jones is the QB of the future? Do you anticipate still needing more time after this season is over?

SXD,

On further review I see that you have already answered this question, so I apologize for being repetitive in asking it again when you've already answered another poster.

So just to put a bow on this, your stance is that 76 starts - but not 65 - will be the right amount of data for you to decide if you believe Jones is the QB of the future. Is that correct?

Also, just so I understand, do you plan on viewing these final 11 starts (assuming he starts 11 more games this year) in isolation in coming to your conclusion, or do you plan on combining them with the other six and looking at 2024 holistically?

Hi Dave,

It would be the entire 17 game season of 2024.

Well it keeps getting bumped to the top. The context and discussion of the thread is fine. It's just the trend of people using vague open ended questions as topic headers that is annoying.

That's not the point.

I think too many people think it's all about the QB. Jones is being blamed for every loss and it's not fair. There are so many variables that contribute to Ws and Ls. This team is a kicker away and a few breaks from being a winning team.

Joe Burrow has won nothing with Cincinnati. They were 1-4. Yet many would be ecstatic if he was our QB. Mahomes has six TDs and six interceptions- KC is undefeated. Dak Prescott was as good as anyone the past few years - the Cowboys stink. So go figure.

This is why I support DJ and why I refuse to believe that just changing the QB will solve all of the team's problems. The supporting cast and the coaching staff are every bit as important as the QB.

He has a supporting cast and almost singlehandedly lost the Bengals game,

Burrow has been in the league for 4 full years.  Two of which have been shortened by injury (if you want to talk about his durability thats a good topic). The two years he wasn't injured the team won the division title both years, went to an AFC Championship one year and a Super Bowl the other year.

What is your definition of winning something if he has "won nothing"?

Yes people would be ecstatic if the Giants had a QB that could provide those results in back to back years.  The Bengals have shown they are not good without him (this year they seem mediocre with him).

If in Jones 5 full years, the Giants had been to two Championship games I doubt there would be many people in this forum pointing to him as the issue.

I am repeating myself to say that I have always supported and have never faulted Daniel Jones at any time in his now 6th season. However, while recognizing that some QBs take longer and/or a better cast around them to reach a franchise potential, I don't now see in him anything like a necessary "take charge" leadership ability which I see in those others mentioned and which I think is essential and is either there now or never will be. Feeling bad for all concerned.

Cheers!
