I have been wondering if our defense is as good as they seem.  One thing I have observed over the years is that when a team gets a lead against a team with an unproductive offense (like the Giants), they tend to get more conservative and reign things in a bit offensively.

I think one indicator that this might be happening is that when the Giants take the lead or threaten to take the lead, suddenly, the opposing offense is able to score.

I wonder how the defense would perform if opposing teams expected the Giants to score over 20 points in a game.

If a team is not trying to score on every possession, i would question their coaching personally.

Would you say that the harder a team tries to score, the more likely a momentum-changing turnover could occur?

It's possible, I could have maybe read it wrong to be fair, I interpreted it more as the "superior team" sleeping on the lesser one, and not taking them seriously.

Fundamentally, I agree with you; however, after watching the All-22 I'm seeing athleticism and awareness in our back seven that I haven't witnessed in years.

I think the defese is excellent.  They built around the defense knowing the offense wasn't likely to be all world this season.  And they did a good job of it.  That front 7 is very very good.  Safeties could use an upgrade but Banks is great.  Flott appears to have improved.  Phillips is having a terrific rookie season.  All these guys are young too.  They're set up to be good for a while.

I think the Defense are playing very well

I guess we can judge at the end of year and see how it compared to previous years.

tough to say, its only been 6 games. they do look good though. if we got another high level cb we would be one of the best.

I do think opposing teams know the Giants aren't going to break the scoreboard, allowing for a more conservative approach on the risk/reward paradign.

It's night and day better than last season and the best Defense since 2016. Bowen whom I had reservations about being a vanilla DC, has called some great games. He's mixed in aggressiveness, Zone, and Man coverage with a well coached group of players, utilizing their strengths. When Thibs was out they still brought pressure. When Dex is resting, the others step up and that was a problem last season. They have been better against the pass and the run and they are tackling gang style. Plus he's not the divisive weasel that Wink was. Now if the Offense can score TDs instead of FGs, they will be even better. Young players developing is a nice thing to see.
