Quote from: todge on October 20, 2024, 05:48:13 PMToday's game was on the OL. I just don't know how that even debatable.  No team is going to win when the OL yields 7 sacks, 9 hits and nine hurries.

So you're saying it is all about the QB and if you change that, the Giants will be great again. Good luck! Is all I can say.

First, you're wrong regarding a QBs inability to rise above a poor offensive line.  I suggest doing some research; Eli Manning did it on the NFLs biggest stage, in the rain.  He was sacked 6 times and hit 14 times; the latter was more than DJ today.  Yet, he made the big plays when they were available, which is something DJ simply is incapable of.  Burrow was sacked a record 9 times and hit 15 times in the 2021 AFC division game.  I could go on, but QBs do have the ability to win games under severe pressure.

This is also one game; I never view one game in a vacuum.  Instead, I always prefer to take a macro perspective.  The FACTS are, DJ had top 10 pass protection and produced a bottom 3 offense.  You never bothered to address that fact.  Yes, I believe the Giants have some nice young talent, akin to Wash last year.  In fact, I actually think we're more talented.  However, we're handicapped by a QB who consistently produces the same results.

Tommy is young ... low ceiling ... but who gives AF right now... put him in and pray for a miracle...We won 3 games in a row with him last season lets pray for that again this season

Im sick of this sh** ... Lock does NOTHING for this team... nothing improves
Last thing we need is for them to now win a few games.  They could try to get a QB at #8ish if that were to happen.  Could try to get one in 2nd round, but at this point have to roll the dice with a top QB prospect in the top 3 picks.

Quote from: todge on October 20, 2024, 05:48:13 PMI've never refused to answer anything. All I've said is that it's not all on the QB. There are 21 other guys and a coaching staff that contribute to Ws and Ls.

There are a variety of other factors that are different each game. Jones was 12th in QBR before the Cincy game. His own coach stated he was "locked in". The Giants lost those games because they had no kicker in one. They are third in the league in drops including several in crucial situations.

Today's game was on the OL. I just don't know how that even debatable.  No team is going to win when the OL yields 7 sacks, 9 hits and nine hurries.

Ted

How many of those 8 sacks were on Jones and not the OL?

Even the announcers said he was holding the ball too long. If he is under duress, he needs to get rid of the ball quicker, not stare down the field, hoping some one will be wide open. Yes the OL line played poorly, but I would say at least half of those 8 sacks were Jone's fault.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Jones doesn't come to compete.  He's a deer in the headlights from the jump.  It's embarrassing.

Quote from: todge on October 20, 2024, 04:31:33 PMDid you ever consider the fact that no QB can play this game with such horrific offensive line play and zero pass protection? 8 sacks, 10 hits, 10 hurries with no running game - I don't care if you resurrect Joe Montana. Until you fix this offensive line, it's a moot point.

Brother .... I've defended Jones his whole career ... me and you were probably going toe to toe with the Anti Jones guys in certain threads over the years

But up until today the line play has been decent

As much as I wanted him to be the man ... Jones is not the guy

Seattle game was great .... But he's not consistent.... Especially at home when everyone is cheering you on baffles me

To blame the line .... At least this season is crazy .... Every other season I'd agree with you .... But so far this season not at all

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on October 20, 2024, 05:08:30 PMHe was a $40MM QB with a top-10 pass blocking line, star WR... And they put up less than 20 points basically. If you just get "decent" with that, you've got a problem and it's the QBs capability. Jones had non-competitive throwing ability greater than 15 yards downfield. You cannot threaten defenses like that. The Bengals dared him to do anything past 10 and he couldn't. He is a major contributing factor to the offense being horrible.

Why are you arguing about things I didn't say?

If the implication is that decent is acceptable under those circumstances, it's not.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on October 20, 2024, 05:02:22 PMNo.  Neither has Jones.  When the OL played well he had decent games.  Not great games, but decent ones.

No TDs at Giants Stadium in almost 2 years is not decent. I am of the belief "just win baby".....but unfortunately he hasn't done that either. I feel bad for the young man. He is gonna make a helluva good backup QB somewhere.

As I said, you are arguing against things I didn't say.  I really don't understand this need you seem to have to attack posters who don't see things exactly like you do.

Tomlin is 4-2 and changes QBs.

What a difference he is compared to what we have - on so many levels.

Why don't we sign Fields this offseason and cut Jones? I don't think his 5th year option was picked up so he should be a free agent.

DeVito isn't going to improve the team; that looks terrible.  He will likely make the team play even worse.  Lost in the excitement of DeVitomania last season was the reality that defensive turnovers played a far bigger role in those victories.   DeVito had his chance last season but seemed more focused on growing his brand that becoming a better QB.

Didnt Devito beat the Eagles last year?...Jones hasn't even thrown a TD at home in close to 2 years. How worse can he be?
