The hot seat is getting hotter for the QB
Nabors is a young stud. He should have a great career. But he won't win the Giants enough games to make them a winning team. The Giants should have drafted a QB. Now they must possibly settle for less this off season because the pressure will be on them to make the pick.

I saw someone say in a thread a few weeks ago that Daboll and Schoen want the Maras to sit in their dirty diapers. It's not an unreasonable theory.

That QB at #6 would have been McCarthy who is out for the year. At least we have a healthy Nabors plus a new QB next year.

Quote from: Gmo11 on October 21, 2024, 03:04:14 AMWe may never know for sure but I feel pretty strongly that they could have done that deal with Jones at any point and he'd have accepted and the reason they did it at the last possible moment before the deadline was that they preferred doing it with Barkley.

We saw on hard knocks that by that point Barkley didn't want to be here and who could blame him? Whether the year before things were different is anybody's guess but regardless of what he was saying in public by the end of it he had zero intentions of signing with the Giants no matter what they offered.

I also think it was the best thing for everybody involved. Including the Giants. There's no need to pay a 27/28 year old RB that much when they have Jones at QB and a questionable OL. Signing him likely prevents them from getting either the new LG or RT. And also probably doesn't allow them to trade for burns. It sucks watching him thrive for a bitter rival especially in a revenge game but I still think in terms of building a complete team at that stage in the rebuild it was the best thing for them to move on.

Totally agree that after he was tagged, it was unlikely Barkley was interested in staying with the Giants- and why would he?  What he was asking for was reasonable, certainly not far fetched- and as it turned out, below his actual market value to stay in NY.  So, yes- for this year I was 100% on board with letting him go where he could thrive, get paid, and allow us to get some more pieces that we needed.  But the prior year, I think they absolutely made a mistake in giving DJ the long term deal and tagging Saquon- should have done the exact opposite and we'd be in a much stronger position now.  But, ob la di, ob la da!

But will that QB be better than McCarthy? Not so much talent in 2025.

Bobby Skinner addressed this on the post-game podcast.   Starting Lock needs to be more than just, "he's no Daniel Jones."   As poorly as DJ played, Lock showed there is room to be worse.   So you start Lock, and he sucks worse than Jones, then what?   Do you go back to Jones, do you just suck worse?   I don't think DeVito is the answer, and it appears clear neither do the Giants.

You continue to play Lock and develop your young talent. Who cares if lock plays worse?  At this point, the season is lost...the focus needs to be on future seasons and drafting Jones replacement.

Quote from: kingm56 on October 20, 2024, 07:52:33 PMTo be fair, this is true for all coaches, even the greats. Lil Bill is 85 and 102 without Brady; Andy Reid was a good HC with a good QB, a terrible HC without one, and a HoF'er with Mahomes.  Sean Payton has been bad without Brees, and is finally having fun again with a solid rookie. Sean McVay appears to forgot how to coach when his QB is injured and on and on.  In the modern NFL, having a QB is fundamental to winning.

What was Bill's record with the just the Pats without Brady?  What did Brees do for 5 years before his coach was Payton? If he was so good, why did SD draft a QB in 2004? When was Andy Reid a terrible HC?  He took a mediocre QB and roster in Philly to 4 championship games.

It's not unreasonable. I've had a similar thought, and it would be more plausible if added to the two year out was the gentlemen's handshake that if/when Jones fails Schoen/Daboll get a chance with their own QB. Remember Mara rues a revolving door FO. Mara needs some A&D ointment.

Joe Judge thought the same way, starting guys like Jake Fromm and Mike Glennon.  It didn't end well for Joe Judge or David Gettleman.

Weren't you on team tank the season last year?  What has changed?  Why not make sure DJ doesn't collect his injury and let some other shmuck lead the team to what is going to be another forgettable season?

For one, I don't see the franchise caliber QB prospects as last season.  Worse, two wins may be enough to push the Giants to no better than 4th in the draft.  I don't see the Panthers, Pats, or Browns winning more games and at least two of them need a QB.  So not only are there no elite QB prospects emerging this college season, but there needs to be at least 2 or 3 emerging if the Giants want a shot at one.

Plus, according to you and many others here, DJ stinks, and the team will not win games regardless.

As for last season, if the Giants were serious about drafting a QB (and didn't plan on re-signing them), the Giants should have traded away both McKenzie and Barkley).   That isn't just tanking for the sake of tanking (and you are advocating for), but it would have earned the team more draft picks to either trade up or add more talent in the last draft.

I must of missed Judges' prior CoY or other bona fides as a coach.  This not remotely the same situation.

Actually, it's worse.  How would Daboll be able to look his players in the eyes and tell them to give their all when the players could plainly see Daboll isn't even playing his best QB?

How do you know DJs WRs think he's the team's best QB?  Nabers' comments suggest otherwise. The better question, how can Daboll look his #30 ranked offense in the eyes and expect them to play hard without making a fundamental change?
