I was just talking about this with @kartanoman

QuoteThe team will likely move Eluemunor to LT and then play either Neal or Hubbard (I would go, Hubbard, unless Neal has been impressive behind the scenes) at RT.  Elemunor at LT will be a downgrade to Thomas, but he will need less help than Ezeudu, which should help the rest of the line somewhat.

IMHO he is and always has been worse than Neal. It's only because he was a mid round pick and Neal was 7th overall that people are less willing to admit it. Don't get me wrong, the Giants only have two capable tackles on the roster and one of them is now on the IR. Whoever mans the other tackle spot opposite Ellumanor is going to be a horrific train wreck.

I am moderately hopeful that Hubbard can play RT and not be a major liability.

Has JE even played LT before? Not sure I would move him tbh

You have much more faith than I do.

Last year JE started two games for the Raiders at LT-  62.4 and 64.1
The prior year he started one game at LT for the Raiders-  59.3

Another strangely managed situation.

The Giants didn't want to change 2 positions, so they put a terrible LT on the field as an alternative.

I can see not wanting to change 2 positions if it's for a few weeks, but Andrew Thomas is out for the f#$@ing season. There's 11 games left. You are basically starting over up front now - and you owe it to the football team to put the best guy at LT and reconfigure the approach. Instead they go back to having a disaster player on the field.

If they are going to have a disaster player - let it be Evan Neal who was a top 10 pick. Maybe he has an epiphany.

If after 3 years he is still unplayable at RT, move him to G already and try.

Nothing this team does makes sense.

The best I could speculate is that they believe Hubbard is the long-term solution.  They viewed Neal and Ezeudu as bad options, but at least with Ezeudu, they wouldn't have to upset two offensive line positions.  Now that Hubbard has had a few days to acclimate

I'd like to see them give Neal a shot at LT, but then again the guys making that decision know a heck of a lot more than I do.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

This potentially horrifies me more (i.e. glass half empty?).

They have to do something different than yesterday. So, start the permutations and hope they find a stabilizing formula someway, somehow.

I don't want to give up on Bricillo and his guys yet; however, this is a tough ask and will likely take time to heal over the loss of Thomas. Playing a Steelers team is about as hard as it gets when it comes to having line issues.

Peace!

Ezeudu is a guard. I don't understand why we drafted him as a guard and keep playing him at tackle. Of course he sucks at tackle.

I read your posts and I watch their team...

Our line was playing at a pretty high level (at least as far as pass blocking goes) prior to the Thomas injury, but this is not a deep O line. An injury to the best O lineman we have is just going to be a devastating blow no matter what game of three card monte (or in this case four card) we play with the remaining players.

Obviously, they should still endeavor to get the best five out there that they can in the optimal five positions, and I'm not suggesting otherwise. But this was unquestionably the player we could least afford to lose for the season.

Ezeudu stunk at G, too.

It's (along with Neal) another illustration of how unscientific the draft is. Ezeudu's college coach raved about his pro potential. Size, athleticism, technique and passion for the game. Versatility and leadership abilities too.

None of it materialized. Of course, I'm also a big "circumstances" guy.

The Cowboys had Neal as their #1 rated player overall. They would've just plugged him in at LG and he'd be All Pro right now. The Giants had a historically bad OL and needed him to play RT and within that context, he's been a massive bust.

By using Ezeudu at LT they thought they could get him help and cover deficiencies.  It seems like maybe they were covering up JMS's flaws and couldn't do that as much in this game.

For all the talk of how awful he was, and he gave up two sacks, his overall score was a lot better than JMS.
