Daniel Jones is the clear-cut starting quarterback for Monday night vs. Steelers, according to Brian Daboll.

"He's the starter," Daboll said.

Daboll was asked if Drew Lock was going to get more snaps this week and he said no. Jones is the starter.

Yoda once said-  "Do or do not. There is no try."

During free agency, it seems like Schoen and company were still toying with the idea of drafting a QB.  As a result, they sort of half-assed the backup QB position and went with Lock.  The idea being the two primary QBs (in whatever order) would be DJ and a 1st round QB.

Ultimately, they didn't draft a QB, so now there isn't a Tyrod Taylor-level backup the team can play instead.  So now they can't bench DJ without making a bad team significantly worse.

I'm not so sure Lock is that much worse than Jones. You certainly can't judge his bad performance in garbage time Sunday. No, Lock is not good. But Jones is not good either. Neither gives them much of a chance. They screwed the QB stuff up from the get go.

If you don't want to base it on his garbage time performance, there was also training camp where he did not look as good as Daniel Jones.

If your the head coach, how do you look your players in the eyes (the ones you are asking to give their all) and tell them to try their hardest if you don't play your best QB?

Good question. Yet last year the best QB in the room was Tyrod Taylor. And everyone knew it.

This is an excellent point. I didn't think of that perspective but it makes perfect sense.

This will be the game that ends DJs starting role. Aaron Rodgers had a quick game release, two step drop and throw for much of the game and he struggled.

Schoen should have kept Tyrod Taylor and spent the extra three million. Drew Lock has shown nothing so far. This season is over.

If Jones ends up getting a serious injury and triggering the injury clause in an already lost season, I may take a year off as a fan. I have been a fan since the early 80s and have remained fiercely loyal through many awful periods, but this degree of stupidity might put me over the edge.

I am with you.  Stupidity for sure.  They will not win with him.  Avoid the risk.  Be a man though and tell him honestly

I see no reason at all why it should be a difficult conversation for either him or the team. It seems pretty straightforward at this point given the results on the field ever since the contract was signed. I also assume it was he (ie him and his agent) who insisted on the injury clause as part of their final negotiation. If they'd like to waive it and have him be eligible to continue to compete for the starting role this year, then fine. Otherwise, he should sit out the rest of the season.
