Quote from: AZGiantFan on October 22, 2024, 03:17:37 PMI don't know why you took a shot at Musk.  You may not like his politics but I think he would be a fantastic owner.  If you look at his businesses it is clear that he hires top-notch people and lets them do their jobs.  He's not personally designing the fabulously successful rockets or writing the code for the AI built into the Teslas, thats his hires doing that, within a framework he creates.  And it works to an extraordinary extent.

Because he is a meth smoking meglomaniac he trying to illegally buy people's votes. He has also turned Twitter into a unchecked home for trolls. He would be the worst owner in sports.

Whatever you say.  If I respond we'll get into politics and that's not allowed on this board.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Musk has destroyed the value of Twitter.

This is simply not a factually accurate statement.

If it is factually accurate, then that automatically makes Musk an idiot for paying $44 billion for it. And I don't think Musk is an idiot.

Have it your way. I always found it trendy tech for sheep that care about celebrities. The further I get off grid and distance myself from social media and industrial society, the more at peace I become.  I don't think Musk is an idiot either. People love McDonald's too, but it's not good for them.

At this point Musk is closer to being Bond villain genius than he is an idiot.

Have to say, I haven't been on Facebook for close to a decade and twitter for several years and it's refreshing to leave.  Still love Reddit though

Sure, but that doesn't mean McDonalds has zero value, which is what you seemed to be saying about Twitter.

I guess by value you meant some other meaning than monetary value. That is fine, but I don't think that was the intended context for the word in the post prior to yours that prompted your response.

My comment had nadda to do with monetary value. It concerned intellectual merit...in my highly biased opinion of course.

That's understood now, and it's obviously fair enough that that is your opinion.

I took your comment to be referring to monetary value because that was pretty clearly what the previous poster, to whom you responded, was referring to.

By brother and I paid $750 per ticket to sit at our beautiful seats. 50 Yd line, dead center, field level row 17. Perfect day, perfect seats. Sitting among many Egirl fans. It JUST SUCKED! I won't be doing it again. Beer and hotdog prices are ridiculous. Although the fan experience outside the stadium was fun (I mean, you have to pass through the gates, using your tickets). It was not worth the ticket price. Until the Giants become competitive again. There is no way in hell I will pay to live that experience again. I did not enjoy the game. We left 4th qtr right after the last Eturds TD. If Eshit fans think their Ecrap team is going anywhere, they are in for a rude awaking. They did not look all that great either.

Heck I moved here in part to have the Giants and Knicks as my home teams.

I fully intended on being a Giants season ticket holder just as soon as they showed signs of turning it around.

I'm still waiting, and becoming more disheartened with each passing year.
From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

I don't know for sure, but I would expect a lot od season tickets are held by companies who love doing 'favors' for clients, like giving them tickets for games so the out-of-town fans can enjoy beating up on the Giants.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

I hope that is the case, cause giving them to Giants fans, or clients who are, aren't doing them any favors  Redfaced

Quote from: kartanoman on October 22, 2024, 11:10:29 AMWhen it comes to Mara and Tisch, and the "metrics which matter" they likely use to manage the "health" of their business, you would think that failures on the field are captured somewhere in their performance metrics under "Operations" and "Medical Services."

But no matter what happens on the field, the one Mara/Tisch metric which, in effect, negates the effectiveness of the others, is the overall value of the organization. When the team effectively continues to fall behind on the field, yet the value of the organization climbs into the top three in the NFL, where is the motivation/incentive to aggressively pursue winning on the field. In essence, why not take on the culture of the 49ers which was established under their legendary owner, the great Eddie DeBartolo. That was a man who demanded excellence, held people accountable and rewarded every person on his payroll when the 49ers achieved it. To this day, his players still speak with reverence about how well he treated them and how they WANTED to work as hard as they could for him because they didn't want to let him down. Not Bill Walsh, Not George Seifert, but Eddie; think about that.

Winning for The Duke was one thing. Winning for The Duke and Bob Tisch was another thing. But winning for John and Steve would not have been the same had Anne Mara not forced herself onto center stage and chewed Terry Bradshaw a new @$$hole after the Giants won the NFC Championship Game in San Francisco. That was the last hurrah for the old guard. It's been the Wilderness Years, Part Deux for the fans while the Mara and Tisch ownership rake in the revenue as the third most valuable franchise in the league. I'm pretty sure The Duke was nowhere near the top 10 before Giants Stadium ever existed during the original Wilderness Years.

#3. That in and of itself is reason enough why neither owner will sell their share of the Giants anytime soon. Put on an angry face, throw a chair and hope the Fox cameras pick you up, whatever video and sound bits you need to show you care, and go back to your glass penthouse and listen to that beautiful musical tune ... cha-ching ... cha-ching ... cha-ching goes the family cash register while $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ dance in the back of your mind.

'Tis good to be the king!

While another lost season plays out on the field. But us old timers weathered through this old song and dance before. What's another round or two by the same old band? Just ask the bartender for a double and clink our glasses as we toast to the "good ol days" and hope for "better times."

It's the 1970s all over again. Bring out the disco uniforms and I think they've got it down to a T!

Peace!

This is the perfect post. Wow.
I've attempted to say the same, but you stated it perfectly. 10 years ago the team was valued at $2 Billion, now it's worth a little over $7 Billion. From their perch is there really any incentive to change?
