Unless a miracle happens , Daniel Jones will not be the Giants QB in 2025.

The Giants will once again have a very high draft pick and  will be able to draft a QB in the up coming draft

These are the QBs for the draft

Sheudeur Sanders
Cam Ward
Dillion Gabriel
Quinn Ewers
Carson Beck
Gabriel Nissander
Jason Milroe

I have watched a lot of college football as I am on a sports zoom call and my topic each week is college football.

In my opinion , and I am not a football evaluator by any means,  none of the above can be classified as a franchise QB unlike this past years draft where you had at least three.

What would you do as a Giant GM?

If Russell Wilson continues playing well as a starter for the Steelers and is resigned by them , would you offer a third round pick or whatever pick for Justin Fields?

If you're gonna trade for Fields you would be better off drafting your guy from that list.  As of this moment having not watched much video on any of them... I am leaning towards Cam Ward as my favorite with Milroe a close 2nd, but that is subject to change later on when draft season starts and I get to watching a full seasons's worth of video.

None of these guys are on the level of Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels in terms of a prospect to me, at least not yet, but I'd venture to say any one of them would be able to do provide at least what Jones is giving them and very likely more than that.  With the hope for improvement that left Jones 3 years ago.

I'd be shocked if the Giants drafted Sanders. I'd imagine he's not even on the board.

He's the best in this class. I don't see him here either. I don't have much confidence in Carson Beck. He's been looking like DJ 2.0.

There's a lot of film yet to see. My guess there will be at least three in the top ten or better.

I have seen Milroe more than any of the other guys and he is a hard pass for me.

He looks like a poor man's Jalen Hurts and Hurts ain't a rich man's QB.

Haven't seen enough Ewers to form a solid opinion.

They blew it this year by taking a receiver, albeit a potentially great one, when they needed the most important position on the field upgraded. You can't put the cart before the horse. The three the Giants could have drafted might all be better than next year's group. And whoever they drafted, 2024 was always going to be a bridge year. A write off. Now what? QB hell.

I think it's too early to tell. Penix had a big injury history and hasn't played a meaningful snap yet. JJ suffered his own major injury we and don't know how that effects him going forward and Nix hasn't exactly lit the world on fire.

If they could have somehow gotten Daniels or (oddly) drake maye they'd have done it. They tried. Those teams weren't trading their picks. So it's not like they didn't know they needed a QB. They tried to get one but couldn't. And Nabers is incredible.

Next year there's cam ward, deions kid, milroe, Carson beck if you like pocket passers. There's talent there and we haven't even seen a full CFB season. And from the way Jones/Lock are playing the Giants may well be in position to draft their favorite of the bunch.

I know it's too early to tell on those from last year, though Penix was screwed by being drafted by Atlanta after they signed Cousins. He wasn't going to play unless Cousins got injured. My feeling was that whoever the Giants drafted as QB, thinking it would probably be McCarthy, would not play much in 2024 anyway. I always looked at 2024 as a down year regardless of who they drafted, but at least drafting a QB you had someone in place for the future. As of today, they are close to the worst in the NFL at that position with not much hope going forward. I do hope we are surprised by the 2025 QB prospects. The Giants are going into desperation mode and might have to pick one they might not be too high on. That's the mess they've made of all this. The other wild card is what Minnesota does with Darnold. If he continues to have a real good year do they let him walk and just go with McCarthy? Or do they sign him for a few years and if so, where does that leave McCarthy?

I think it's McCarthy's team so they let Darnold walk.

It would be surprising if they turn back to Darnold and re-sign him but with that said, I don't think it'll be shocking.

So many people seemed to celebrate DJ's failure to overcome (mentally and physically) the beating inflicted on him in 2022. Now that the cheering has stopped, the harsh reality that this team doesn't have a quarterback and that finding a franchise quarterback is easier said than done is becoming a reality.  Welcome to the reality I have been living with for years.

It's sort of funny; we often talk about football as if it's a chess game.  In reality, it's more like a game of poker with plenty of luck involved.   Getting a good coach, GM, or franchise quarterback is as much a matter of luck as keen football acumen.

Consider this rookie class of QBs. This was supposed to be a great QB class, yet only one rookie QB has really played like a franchise QB and that is Jayden Daniels (whose biggest question mark was injury risk and he missed much of his last game due to a rib injury).  The rest of the pack have played mediocre ball, been hurt, or hasn't been given a chance to play a significant number of snaps.  IF Jayden can stay healthy he appears to be a franchise QB.  Beyond that, maybe one or two might achieve franchise status but that is far from certain.

Now, we have a draft class where it will be hard to justify drafting any of them in round one.  The reality is the Giants are in need of a "piece" that rarely becomes available and doesn't seem to be likely to come available anytime soon.  As it stands now, it could be years before the Giants acquire their franchise QB.  I know I have heard, "Just draft Arch Manning," but the reality is there will be many teams with the same plan, and there is nothing to say the Giants will be lucky enough to be in a position to enact that "plan."

When there are QBs that reporters say are worth drafting, people then say its a crapshoot (which it is)

But then the next years crapshoot gets talked about like a sure thing to not be good, I dont understand. Is it a crapshoot or not?

The same people in the media thought Trubisky was better than Mahomes, Young better than Stroud, etc, it's meaningless. You never know, gotta get the right person, in the right system. It isn't easy to do, but it is what it is.

As I said, it's more a game of poker.   I think what's grossly underappreciated is that drafting QB talent is only HALF the equation.  Developing the QB is the other half.  That development needs both quality coaching as well as the sort of support structure that allows a young QB to play without running for their life or holding on to the ball forever because there are no open receivers.   A team can draft a talented QB, but if they don't give him the support to develop, they will end up being just another wasted pick.

Occasionally, quarterbacks can overcome a bad rookie situation (see Darnold, Geno Smith, or Baker Mayfield), but more often, they end up being another Derek Carr or Daniel Jones.

I don't think it's fair to say people celebrate DJ's failure. At what point do we stop giving him chances to be something other than what he really is? We see all of these trees around and continue to deny that we are deep in the forest... the QB Hell forest. People continue to believe that we're at the edge of the forest and if we just get a true #1 receiver and better offensive line support, we'll be on our way out of the forest. And yet, here we are.

Jones is the same QB that we see every year but too many people refuse to believe that is who he really is! We've seen this "harsh reality" for years and not too many people are willing to accept it. "Let's wait and let the season play out" should be the team's motto under Jones.

Regarding this year's rookie QB class, it's not even the halfway point and a few of these guys haven't even played yet. Why are we so quick to label guys? If the rule of thumb is to wait at least three years to evaluate a rookie class, why doesn't it apply to this year's crop? Yes, Jayden Daniels is looking legit. Let's see what he does next year when the league has a full season of tape on him. Jones looked solid his rookie year until the league saw the film and neutralized him.

Tim,

You can try to play the "I told you so" card, but I am not buying it.  The DJ that we saw at the end of the 2022 season when he was playing very well and won an impressive game in Minnesota.  The 2022-2023 was a crossroads for Jones.  Schoen could have shored up the O-line and fixed the O-line coaching issues (and maybe not struck out on 3 O-line draft picks) and built on DJ's new-found self-confidence, or he could ignored the issue and subjected DJ to such a beating he suffered two major injuries in the season and lost all confidence and seems to be suffering PTSD from the beating (that Monday night opener was brutal and it made no sense for Daboll not to pull him at some point).  So you can keep saying "I told you so", but no amount of spin will have me change how I see things.

So you guys got what you wanted, Jones will be gone. Enjoy post Daniel Jones NYG.
