The NY Giants are now 2 and 5, with the next game against the 5 and 2 Steelers an almost certain loss. That will put Big Blue at 2 and 6 at the halfway point. Four straight wins would be needed just to bring the team up to .500 ball, with four games left to play. In short, the Giant's season will end this year at the end of regular play.

So, with that out of the way, what has to happen for the Giants to have a chance for a play-off spot in 2025? We've just witnessed an astonishing turnaround in the New York Mets this year. Is there even a hint of something similar happening for the Giants in 2025?

New QB and this team will be competing.  They're closer than a lot of people seem to think they are.

Wouldn't you rather have a hint of something similar to what the Yankees are doing right now? I mean, look who is in the World Series. Even the Dodgers, for that matter!

The Giants need a new punter and kicker. Once these are addressed, the rest will fall into place. No Giant team has ever won a Championship without a Pro Bowl level punter and a reliable, ice in their veins kicker.

A new QB and teams like Philadelphia won't score 28 points. This team needs a lot more than a QB. What QB will be available this off season that can turn it around next year? How many QB's were drafted in the first round before this season that are doing as well as Washington's? How many years did it take Geno Smith and Sam Darnold to become better than average NFL QB's? This team needs a lot more than a QB and a kicker.

In response to your post, that's why I referenced the OMG Mets. The Mets already had the talent on the roster. It just wasn't clicking. The key addition was the coach and a player or two, Those players weren't super star batters. What they provided was an almost undefinable something that helped to welt a bunch of players wearing the same uniform into a top level team. I'm not convinced that the Giants are loaded with talent. I do know that they need that spark which separates the better teams from the also-rans.

Any such discussion must start with a new Quarterback chosen by someone other than " At least 5 years in Purgatory" Dave Gettleman for whom we have John Mara to thank. And for a first time in many years, a Roster not noted for injuries to players at key positions.

I know with parity from the cap, mediocre teams get to the playoffs and don't do much else. We've seen it twice with the Giants over the last 10 or 12 years. The game Sunday, as was several others, was awful. Seeing so many Philly fans there so early in the season for a Sunday 1PM game shows that many feel this team needs more than a QB. Teams have won with poor QB's. Baltimore made the superbowl with an unknown QB. Pittsburgh won in Roethisberger's poor first season. Washington won 3 superbowls with 3 different QB's. Even the Giants won a super bowl with a back up, Jeff Hostetler. Every move they make seems to include one step back. Who's on the OL next year? Just as important, who will be the back ups? The defense has given up too many big plays, with and without Martindale.

This team needs some upgrades at other positions, but a good QB covers up a lot of deficiencies.  The Commanders don't have a great defense, but when you score 30+/game it puts pressure on the opposing offense.  It gives your defense an advantage.

The Giants have several foundational pieces in Dex, Thomas, Burns and Nabers.  There is certainly some depth issues, but overall I think this team can compete with new QB (an above average one) an upgrade on the IOL and more secondary depth.

there was more to Washington turnaround than a new QB and couple of vets ....

all of the above are unlikely to happen with Giants ....especially new ownership.

there is certainly a trend around the league of "failed" 1st round qb's going to other teams and finding success. unfortunately this is probably the reality for jones, i see very few ways he is here next year unlesss he goes 8-3 and finishes with 25+td for the year while making the playoffs. He will go to another team and play decent.

I have to agree about Jones. I think he still could be good enough to play in the NFL, but he needs a change. Not looking forward to waiting for a new QB to settle in. It took Simms and Manning over 4 years each to become comfortable and now we're at around 6 years with Jones with no answers. How many years with Dave Brown, then no one to replace him?

I see a few early round picks revitalizing careers and showing they are better now than when originally drafted.  I don't think it's a trend as there a lot more guys that were busts that are not having this success later. 

Further, I don't think Mayfield or Geno are going to produce anything more than a potential playoff berth.  Darnold has a shot to go deep in the playoffs, but we'll see how this plays out.
