Based on?

I don't mind gossip/speculation but at least provide sources/rationale for it.

Tannehill? that would be awesome. Seriously.

Sorry guys I can't say where I heard it, but I was told they are trying to get something done at the deadline involving QB. Take it with the necessary grain of salt.

Mara sees the light with DJ now.

Good.  There is only so much they can do with a QB who may not be able to start on a NAIA team right now.

Give me a break buddy. Trading a QB like Stafford from a 2-4 team to another 2-4 team ? Who would it be otherwise? Not to mention you have Tannehill sitting out there.

Quote from: Painter on October 24, 2024, 11:17:22 AMThe less that the Maras mess with the team, the better. Whether or not we may think Schoen and Daboll, individually or collectively, are failing, there can be no such question when it comes to the Maras.

It took Rozelle and George Young to help nudge the Giants to their first 2 Lombardis and Archie Manning to have done likewise with the second 2. Yeah, Yeah, I know that's too simplistic, but I think you can see my point.

It seems rather obvious that a change in the Commanders ownership has shown immediate benefit unlike that of the "candied in aspic" situation that now has marked Jerrah Jones's Boys with a far longer Super Bowl deficit than that of the Duke of Wellington's Giants.

Cheers!

Larry,

I would say that the Giants have enjoyed success when there were strong tone-setters in key positions.  You can look to the Parcells/Young era or the Tom Coughlin era, but both were marked by smart men whose strength of character/personality put a stamp on the entire organization.

Outside of that, the team has floundered when run by men who either lack the strength/impact, intelligence/ability, or both.

I just looked at the QB rooms of all 32 teams and the current free-agent QBs.  I am not seeing a QB the Giants could realistically acquire that would call "huge"

I'm okay with Schoen but Daboll has to go. He is a terrible coach and even worse OC. The Giants gave this guy a contract based on Ken Dorsey taking Allen to the next level. Before that Allen was putting up Daniel Jones numbers from two seasons ago. Then Dorsey comes in and transforms Allen into 4500 yard passer. The real QB whisperer is Ken Dorsey.
To build in his awful tenure which was masterfully done in the "Daboll Files" by bigpatsports talk. It a must watch and breaks down Daboll at all his stops as OC and Head coach.

Quote from: Fletch on October 24, 2024, 11:25:33 AMWhich team ? Not the Giants I reckon. I suspect Jones is coming back next year also and, the Giants draft a TE and a running back in rounds 1 and 2 repectively to "help Daniel".

No, not Jones., who won't be back in any case. Certainly, the Giants would be happy to unload him to save a bunch of money. But, he'd bring too little value for anyone to pick up the ton of money left on his current contract even if they manage a renegotiation. Any Draft pick involved would be like leaving a tip on top of the bill.

Cheers!

I've seen some blog-level speculation and YouTubers speculation about some kind of deal to get Bryce Young from the Panthers, but it seems very unlikely to me.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Was that necessary?  It's cracks like this that degrade the tone of the board.

I don't know about "huge" but there are backups out there that are better than Jones like Fields, Tyronne Taylor and maybe even Garopolo. Mac Jones had an outstanding preseason with the Jags and they aren't benching TLaw. Or tt could be an upgrade on Lock after he looked like 1995 Tommy Maddox on Sunday. One of Denvers backups could be available.

I define "huge" as a player who is or potentially is a franchise-caliber QB.  Backups or journey-level QBS who you believe to be better than Jones don't make the cut, by my definition

I think huge, I think the Stafford and Wilson deals. Fields was just acquired for a mere 6th round pick and is now riding the bench.

In other words, I agree on this.
