I keep seeing rumors about Dex being traded. I hope that does not happen, as he is one of my favorite giants of all time, one of the rare players we drafted that got a second contract, and a top 10 player in the league (regardless of position).

But, this is generally where guys like him get traded. Our season is going nowhere fast. We could probably command an insane haul for him.

If you are Schoen, what would it take to green light it?

He isn't getting traded.

It would take a ransom of multiple kingdoms to even consider.

When was the last time a traded happened in the NFL that brought back a ransom?

The current QB draft prospects are not looking good.   So if one expects that it will take at least another 2 or 3 years to be competitive, Dex will be near or at 29, an age men that size tend to start to break down.

Multiple reports that former number 1 overall pick Travon Walker is on the trading block for a 3rd or 4th round pick by the Jags. I would do that in a heartbeat to bolster our line and let Andre Patterson work his magic.

hes turned it on a little bit lately too. i would make that move. but then you have a pretty crowded dline room.

Better to be stacked, than not stacked, I say bring it on.

What would it take? How about a case of Joe Schoen suffering early onset dementia as surely he knows that Dex is the centerpiece of what has been his goal of building a top-tier Defense with addition last season of No.5 overall pick Kavon Thibodeaux and this year's trade (2024 2nd & 2025 5th) for Brian Burns. C'mon folks, let's try to be sensible in our forward thinking.

Cheers!

I would consider it, but it would obviously have to be for the right price.

Two first rounders was my first thought, but maybe that's not realistic. If I'm not getting two first rounders I want a 1 and a 2, plus more than that. Dex is now the best player in the league at his position, and at 26 he still has plenty of great football left. He's also been pretty durable (especially considering the track record of keeping its players healthy of the team he's on).

When you're one of the worst teams in the league and you don't have a QB, no player should be off the table.

unfortunately your last sentence is true. I would take NO LESS than 2 1st rounders. But i'd want more than that. Which probably means it would never happen and i am fine with that. if there were multiple high 1st round talents at QB next year i'd be much more inclined to think about it. But who are we going to get next year that is going to be more valuable to us than dex? no one.

Nobody but for me this would be more about macro planning, not so much about next year. As Rich noted, with the state of this team right now (ie no answer at QB and facing a weak QB class in the 2025 draft), it's plausible we may not get materially better for a few years. By then Dex will be 29/30.

Anyway, I'm not advocating the Giants go out and actively shop Dex. More just for the right price I'd consider it.

I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.
