If the Giants lose tonight, should they permanently bench Jones?

Would you be in favor of benching Jones for the rest of the year if they lose in Pitt to fall to 2-6?

Quote from: Fletch on October 31, 2024, 01:22:54 PMGiants are not interested in a QB competition. Thet interested in Daniel Jones being here as the starting QB; helping him out with other players to make it easier for him; and doing the right thing by him. They are clearly in love with the guy. Trubisky was the closest thing to any serviceable starting QB that could have taken Jones job. And he didn't want it because Jones was here. All of these things are not coincidence.

Actually I don't think this is factually incorrect.

If the Giants had a chance to draft Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams, I think they would have taken either one and moved on from DJ.

The issue was that neither player was available to the Giants to draft last year, even in a trade.

So because of that they stuck with DJ and drafted Nabers, but make no mistake, if their was an elite QB prospect available to them they would have drafted him.

How do you know that? So if an elite QB prospect falls into their lap they are taking it otherwise just ride the wave with Daniel JONES when all 3 teams needed a QB so there was 0 chance of that happening; when you are picking 6?

Also, there were plenty of free agents available why not sign them, if you're serious about a different QB; when the first 3 top prospects got drafted exactly like everyone thought?

We know that because the Giants inquired and made a last ditch effort to trade up for one of the elite qb prospects but the price was too high and none of the teams were willing to budge.

The Giants have been trying to divorce themselves from Daniel Jones for the last three years; they chose not to pick up his fifth year option, but we're saddled with the worst quarterback draft class in 30 years.  The year following, they miraculously made the playoffs and were once again outside the range to draft his replacement. In 2023, they won three meaningless games and once again found themselves outside the range to draft a viable replacement; however, they did try to trade up, but the price was too high.  It's absolutely clear the Giants' brass never believed in DJ; he's still our QB as a byproduct of bad luck. Outside of 2022, I don't prescribed to the John Mara meddling theories.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on October 31, 2024, 01:47:42 PMFair enough, but wouldn't you say the Giants then stumbled into the playoffs in 2007 as well? However they won the superbowl.

My point is there have been glimpses of promise throughout the years, it hasn't been all bad.
2007 is irrelevant.

Jones has demonstrably shown that he doesn't have what it takes mentally to be a starting QB of a perennial playoff team.
 :Giants:  ALL HAIL THE NEW YORK GIANTS!!!  :Giants:

Well that is your opinion, as I have to head back to work

Again if you are serious about a QB competition and moving on from Jones there was the free agent market. Plenty of good QBs could have been picked up for a song Russ Wilson , Baker , Darnold , even Carson Wentz or even re-signing Tyrod. Pretty much all are better than Jones.

You know I wish these DJ fans would come out and say ; I know that Daniel Jones is as good as a legit top 10 QB like Kirk COusins , and be done with this. I suspect this is just like Mara who really see something in this bum. They don't want to do that because it would draw guffaws and an instant illustration of stats and numerous examples  of actual QB play, and accomplishments, that contradicts it.

Even if they did draft a QB instead of Nabers, they were not cutting Jones until the end of this season.  Cap hit would have been too big.

At this point, it's not an opinion, it's a fact proven by objective and subjective data.

It's a waste of time.  These are Mara burner accounts.

Once again, that's an uncalled for statement.

Maybe so but, we can't understand the glaringly obvious fact that Daniel Jones play has been sub par, and yet his apologists continue to shell for him. THere is no other explanation besides Mara's nephew doing this or stubborness on the past of Jones supporters;  and also Mara's stubborness as well.. Yes there is more to it than just Daniel Jones himself. There is playcalling , and coaching, and lack of effort and performance from skill positions and how the defense plays and how the oline plays.

But there is not a significant problem with those other areas. At least not as glaringly obvious as Jones.

That last drive was picture perfect Daniel Jones career and why he sucks.

He has the ball and all I was thinking was "he is going to throw and interception". But he fumbled instead. They get the ball back and again I am like "he is going to throw an int this time" And guess what he does???

Last Sunday I watched a Jacoby Brisset on his like 7th team lead his team down the field ; a back up QB mind you ; to game winning TD against a overrated but nontheless decent Jets defense.

When was the last time Jones did that?

And you never answer the question-- where is Jones ranked like top 10 so he's in the Kirk COusins range? (no he is not!!!!). Even though his cap hit is!

Let me preface this, as I would gladly move on from DJ, and I'm sure the Giants would too, if you could provide us with a Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams type QB in the draft. The problem is they are few and far between and very difficult to secure.

Now to address your comment, just off the top of my head, here are the issues with the team that is affecting Daniel Jones' stats and the offensive teams rankings to score points.

56-yard catch and run that was called back because of an illegal man downfield, not DJ's fault

Theo Johnson pushing off while catching a TD a few weeks ago at MetLife stadium, not DJ's fault.

Wan'dale Robinson, dropping several 3rd down catches that have hit him right in the hands, killing drives over and over again.

Malik Nabers, dropping several 4th down catches that hit him right in the hands, which resulted in Giant losses.

DJ hit Nabers perfectly on a long 40 yard throw, but Nabers was held and the referee missed the call, nullifying another big play, not DJ's fault.

The last few weeks the offensive line because of the season ending loss of Thomas, has been very bad and the pressure on DJ has been intensified.

There were nine penalties last week, which continually put them in 1st and long, or 2nd and long, and brought back some nice plays that were eliminated by the penalties.

A punt return that went back for a TD last week also had nothing to do with DJ but helped in them losing the game.

The point I am making is that back in 2018, Giant fans wanted to move on from Eli Manning, and we put most of the blame on him, but the reality of the situation is there were many problems with the team besides Manning.

The same situation is happening with DJ, he is getting all of the blame while the rest of the team is getting away Scott free, and that is simply unfair and not a balanced approach.

I'm now off to work

It absolutely isn't.  The guy doesn't have a TD pass in four of his last five games.  He hasn't thrown a TD pass at home in two years.  It's quite frankly friggin enough already.
