Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on October 29, 2024, 09:42:27 AMTroy Aikman praised Daboll's work this year (I believe he called it "amazing," but can't recall perfectly) despite having one of the worst scoring offenses. In the same game, he calls out Jones's inability to throw with anticipation, using the Slayton hole shot on the left side of the field as an example (a late throw that got Slayton whalloped). I think that tells you plenty about from whence the problems on this team stem.

I don't think I have ever heard an announcer call out a head coach.

Granted, he can share the blame for the delay of game with Jones (x2). The rest are on him.

Yes, the Giants would have a much better record right now if they could line up, keep O-linemen from wandering downfield, and teach the TEs to chip and block without holding. The catches just out of bounds, the dropped balls, the poor angles on receivers after a catch in front of the DBs against zone, the 12-yard drops by DBs on 3rd and 11, the missed two-point conversions in multiple games, and all the other little things, are killing this team.

The QB play, the running game, and the Defense have all had their issues at times, but they have all been good enough to win and made plays to help the team win. The little things however,.....this team sucks at the little things. They DO add up in these one possession games the Giants find themselves playing in most weeks, especially if there are a lot of little mistakes, which there are. Every week. Those plays negate catches, and runs, and sacks, and all the things the Giants are doing well.

The coaches have to take the blame (and action) for that. The team, to my eyes is getting better. The results are not, and I don't think they can if it doesn't change.

Giants are a sloppy mess with penalties, not doing little details well, etc.  That falls on the coaching.

DJ is done but so should Dabs and JS.

The 2023 class of Banks, JMS, etc is not looking good.

They've questioned play calls and time management all the time.

Jones inability to anticipate is going to get his receivers knocked out, literally. There was another play late in the game where Aikman stated that TE Johnson was crossing the field uncovered, but Jones didn't/couldn't pull the trigger. The sloppiness, little/big mistakes are in a big way caused by the rest of the team KNOWING Jones can't cut it, and NEVER will. It's a get to the second contract league, and some of these guys are "protecting" themselves as Deion would say "he made a business decision". I can't blame them trying to get as much as they can when they can. They know they have NO SHOT of winning with #8 taking snaps. Daboll and Schoen have known it since they took control. Mara may finally be waking up to this fact. He does not live in the same world as the team, and their fans. When you have an historically losing franchise(since 1965 their cumulative regular season record is about 60 games under .500) whose value in the last 10 years increased more than threefold from $2.1 Billion to just over $7 Billion while failing misreably on the field, where is the incentive.

Yep, keyboard warriors like Ed wrote. They got their wish and and the secondary got exposed during a game that could have been won.

He did.  Jones botched it by calling the wrong protection.

Daboll needs to make a change at QB just to see if the team plays better with a different QB ...is their one on the roster that is good enough to play and make a difference ....not sure. BUt if he does, not than Jones will bring him down with him ......unless ?   He has permission from Mara to go with Jones win or lose until the end of the year? Hope that is not the case ....but it may be/

Both Tyrod and DeVito ran the offense just as good, if not better last year.

At the very least, Jones has never played $35M+ plus better than them.

Lock is probably worse though.

Lock is just as bad or worse if you factor in mobility. He was signed for this specific reason I think.  Taylor being around creates a controversy because the players and coaches know he's better but with Lock as the next in line they won't be clamoring for the backup to get in the game.

The Giants had plenty of problems last night. Just blaming the loss on the QB is an inaccurate assessment of the real issues.

Let's start with the horrific one sided officiating that directly affected the outcome. The officials- ignored a PI call on Nabers; ignored a roughing /running into kicker violation; ignored two blocking in the back violations on the punt return; calling 10 offensive line penalties, one on Nabers first not being set was a ticky tack call that didn't affect the play/TD; the bogus holding call on Runyan that negated a huge running play.

Daboll - not helping Eleumenor with Watt was a major gaffe. Leaving a totally overmatched Hubbard alone far too much was another. Jones was crushed 10 times and sacked 7.. Once a QB doesn't trust his protection, his internal clock speeds up and he has to throw the ball to his primary receiver only. Jones had on average approximately 3 seconds to throw the ball. That's not enough time to go through his progressions. No QB can play well under those conditions yet people still have the expectations he still can.

Defense - the Giants gave up 400 total yards to the offensively challenged Steelers. They couldn't stop the run. They had to bench their starting CB leaving two backups to the task.

So go ahead and adopt the attitude that all this team needs to do is get a new QB and all will be well. The other 21 players, the coaches and the officials affect Ws and Ls.

Daboll says Jones is the starter this week.

Some of you folks are reacting as if you had an expectation that they would beat the Steelers last night, if only... As they didn't, it becomes a question as to whom to blame, or to blame most.

Leaving Ronnie Barnes aside, the leaders in the blame game- exacerbated as much by false expectation as by disappointment- are Brian Daboll and Daniel Jones or, for that matter, both almost equally. I suppose it's not unreasonable given that if they do not beat Carolina in Deutschland in 2 weeks, they will enter the Bye with the same 2-8 record as last year.

While no doubt we believe our judgements to be objective in essence, they rarely are in fact given our already well-formed biases. Consequently, I am less interested in judging than in simply speculating that Brian Daboll will continue as Giants HC and play caller for at least another year whereas Daniel Jones will be released before mid-March next year to avoid owing him any of his remaining contract money which will save them a bunch even with a $22 million Dead Cap cost.

It does, however, leave open a question as to whether and when they may sit DJ to avoid the possibility of triggering his $23 million injury guarantee if he can't pass a physical by what will be the start of the 2025 League Year? Will it be risk/reward as usual? Quien sabe?

Where Daboll is concerned, I can only say that I am both surprised and impressed at how highly he is regarded around the League. Indeed, I see speculation- there's that word again- that should the Giants let him go, he will be the first guy signed to HC another team. As for who may become Jones's successor, I can't even begin to speculate, conjecture, or guess with any real conviction until much later.

Cheers!

@ todge

So do you honestly think Daniel Jones is a good QB, just unlucky for 6 years playing ona badly coached / bad roster team?

He comes up small in every big moment. And it is every big moment.

Idon't believe everyone thinks there is not a lot of blame to go around but, there are also some pleasant surprises with this group. Rookies on defense are playing good and Burns looks like the expensive free agent pass rusher he is sometimes. Nabers looks good, and before THomas got hurt -- the oline looked good as well.

As speculated, they'll wait until the bye or before the panthers game.
