I love to listen to Carl. He routinely talks to the coaching staff and players, so his commentary on the team often reflects that of the coaching staff and/or players.

Highly recommend listening to all of it but Carl's opening speech (& personal story) is truly outstanding.

We've all heard great emotional speeches and "rallying cries" from head coaches (both in real life and movies).

This is a great assessment (and the best NON-emotional "rallying cry" I've ever heard from anyone, including head coaches).

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Why do you think Carl hasn't gotten into coaching?  He seems to be aware of how todays NFL works and he has his finger on the pulse of the players.  Just curious.  I know not everyone can be a great coach but i believe Carl could.

WD: That question has been on my mind for probably over 20 years. I guess they pay him well at his current job and it's a combination of (1) he's happy as is; and (2) he's aware of the type of aggravation coaching presents & wants no part of it. A really smart guy, so I assume he's been asked... but who knows? Bob

The mental stress of coaching is not for everyone and he probably makes more money doing radio. Not as much as TV analysts make. Notice you rarely see those PBP/CA hang up the pressed sports coat and give up that 1 day a week job for 5 months to be a position coach working 300 days year?

Carl has kids, and Carl is well aware of the life of the assistant coach (long hours, frequent team changes, etc).   He was wise to go into broadcasting after his playing career (he also has a sports clothing line) as those allowed him to live a normal life, and he was able to be a major part of his kids' lives.

You all present very logical and probable reasons.  Thanks for the input.  I'd still love to see a former Giant great leading the team.  Dare to dream.

I'm not a football savant like Carl Banks. But I've watched the sport for over fifty years. What he is talking about in the clip, football smarts or lack thereof, was obvious and evident to me in Jones first year. But his first year he was a rookie. Maybe he could develop those smarts. But year after year the same glaring problem was obvious...to me. People made the excuses about the offensive line and lack of quality receivers and poor coaching. Those were all legitimate complaints but at some point you need to display smarts. That you can handle those high anxiety moments. He never has and why it's taken so long for some to realize what is something that is ingrained and can't be taught and that has been evident from day one is baffling. And I'm not talking just about casual fans. How couldn't management see it????

Absolutely love this post! Like you, I'm no professional when it comes to scouting and evaluating players. However, I have watched enough football and seen enough players who run the gamut between busts and HOFers. I think something that we don't place enough emphasis on is the difference between skill and talent. Jones has some of the skills to be a QB in the NFL but he doesn't have the talent to be a consistent winner.

It's also a job that is all-consuming hard work, whereas he has it pretty good as is.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Just good enough to stay in a game and bad enough to lose it.

For the same reason that everyone here does whatever they do and not something else. Combination of personal preference, circumstances, opportunity, and need to make a living.

Everything Banks is saying points to coaching. If Jones goes so does Daboll he is no QB whisperer. The first thing out of Banks mouth is undisciplined and the second is not valuing possessions. That my friends is an indictment in coaching.
I do not want Daboll anywhere near the next QB. If the Giants are going to start they have to start fresh. New QB and new coach.
