If Schoen is serious about winning, he trades Ojulari as soon as KT is healthy

Quote from: uconnjack8 on November 01, 2024, 07:51:56 PMFor me trading him is more about what I feel is a low probability of having him next year.  It would be great if they could keep Ojulari and Thibs long term , but I don't see it given the investment in Burns and Dex.

I think Ojulari is about as good a pairing as you can get for Dex in the pass rush. They push the QB toward each other. When you add Burns it's been a pretty solid pressure group.

I don't see why they can't keep him. They can work it out. I have a very different mindset than most of you. I believe you do everything in your power to keep your best players. It was a mistake not using him while Thibs was healthy. They had four aces and instead did the Boogie.

Same with Slayton. He's been the most productive receiver the past several years. He's only 27.

The Jones contact set this team back years. They had to give up on Barkely and McKinney.

Now a designated post June 1st cut of Jones will free up enough money to keep your base and then some. Sign a Journeyman like Darnold for a reasonable contract and roll the dice for a QB. If you can't get your guy, draft Dart in round 2. Or go after Richardson because that moron of an owner will give him away. And if you don't win another game this year, you hit the lottery.

I think they can keep him and I completely agree that I hate giving up + players especially at certain positions.

I just have a hard time putting that much cap resources into one unit.

It sure does make a young QBs learning curve shorter when he has a better team around him though.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on November 01, 2024, 06:00:47 PMLOL at using 8 games as declarative "context". I also find it funny that you reference contract year perfokqnace  as a determining factor to pay someone without a hint of recognition of the oftentimes historical folly of exactly that - paying someone due to contract year performance.

You can laugh at me all you want, as I won't do that to you, but the facts remain the same, players who are young in their prime and who produce a big year in their contract year get paid handsomely.

This can actually be proven

A) Leonard Williams in his contract year put up 11.5 sacks and was paid handsomely.

B) Daniel Jones in his contract year played well and was paid handsomely.

There are countless examples, having a big year in your contract year as a young player always produces bigtime cash.

Ojulari will be no exception, as you will see the contract, he gets compared to the Uche player you provided.

But if you were Slayton and thought you could enter the upper ranks of receivers wouldn't you want to go to a better offensive team that could better bring out your talents?

And yes, they had to give up Barkley and McKinney and they got nothing for them.  The same is likely to happen with Slayton, IMO.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on November 01, 2024, 05:23:40 PMSadly you may want to take a look in the mirror.

Ojulari is 24 years old, and is projected for 12.8 sacks, in his contract year.

Your Uche guy is projected for 4.3 sacks this year.

As you can see big difference.

Furthermore players who have big years in their contract years get paid handsomely, whereas others who do not, well I'll let the numbers above speak for themselves.

Enjoy Extrapolating!

You might want to read posts and get your facts straight, I never said a word about Uche

No, you just said this right after "stringer" brought up "Uche" in his post.

Barkley and McKinney would have brought in a second or third rounder and that's a different situation because their contracts were destined to be out of reach for what Schoen was willing to spend, although he could have kept Barkley. Ojulari and Slayton would likely be a 5th round pick. I also don't see their contracts being out of reach to resign. Slayton is a solid number two Receiver. Ojulari is a rotation player at the top of that group. He works well with other talent around him. He's not getting a Burns contract. Imo.

I don't know what Slayton would want to do but that's a good point. Especially if the team becomes dysfunctional, Daboll is canned and they have to start all over. I would go to the contender

Trade Thibs if you can get anything for him. Before his rookie contract expires

A second round pick. And a 3-4 for next year. But it's not gonna happen.

What happened to "you can never have enough pass rushers"

Why trade him now? It's not like he can command big $$s.

If he's finally developing into a consistent threat, let's enjoy it and keep building the roster.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

I can't believe anyone is suggesting trading a top 5 pick 2.5 years into his career.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on November 01, 2024, 08:37:55 AMEd,

I completely agree with you.

Slayton is on pace for 938 yards

And

Ojulari is on pace for 12.8 sacks.

On what planet do both of those players only net return a 5th or 6th rd pick?

The notion is absolutely ludicrous.

Did you see what Amari Cooper returned recently?

Yes, I just saw they had to trade a 3rd rd and a 7th rd pick to aquire Cooper, plus he is already 30 years old.

Slayton will be 28 in January...

And, better than Slayton.
