He is a typical highly talented young WR entering the league with loads of hype from a big college. He makes plays. He drops a few too many. He talks a bit too much. He hates losing. It is up to the coaches and locker room to give him Slayton attributes of work ethic and team spirit to round out the talent. It is up to the front office to give him a QB who will not waste him.

Quote from: MagicRat on November 03, 2024, 03:53:30 PMI'm not wanting to come across as an old "get off my lawn" type curmudgeon,  but Nabers worried me today.
He seemed to be wanting to get into a pissing contest with his old college buddy on the opposite sideline and he had a F-ing ludicrous first down celebration when we were two scores down.
Maybe this is motivated by my complete and total pissed-off-ness at yet another xxxx-show, but I'm thinking "wind your neck in lad".

My friend, this modern era is not the old era when teams looked at each other as public enemy #1.

The isolated situation you called out are two rookies who played together and were QB and WR; one of the more intimate working relationships on the football field. In this case, both were very close friends at LSU.

The situation was a timeout and, unless the coach called the team into a huddle, and Nabers was still yucking it up with his pal, there's no harm, no foul, no problem, except perhaps odd optics for traditionalists who believe you never fraternize with the enemy.

It's football, it's their job and when the referee blows his whistle, both players strap it up and go to work. That two close friends can chat during a timeout is hardly cause for concern.

My question to you, sir, is would you have asked the same question had the scoreline been flipped and the Giants had won the game easily? Please carefully reflect on that because I honestly believe that factor may have played into your thought process more than the two players themselves.

Peace!

Quote from: TDToomer on November 03, 2024, 09:20:09 PMI agree but I sense a trend here and it building up to the same stuff that lead Giants fans to drive OBJ out of town. Nabors is not the problem!
Yet OBJ was a problem, so lets not pretend like he was the victim.

When coaches game plan so OBJ doesn't throw a fit during the game, you are a damn problem

Quote from: Stringer Bell on November 03, 2024, 10:34:06 PMNot everyone is coked up LT wanting to kill the opposition. Nabers can chat up the opposition, perform at a high level, and still be a superstar.

As long as he does his job, what exactly are we talking about?

If you don't want to come off as a curmudgeon, don't make a mountain out if a molehill.

Thank you thank you thank you :ok:

Nobody here is going to be responsible for running Nabors out of town. Opinions and thoughts are welcome here, regardless of whether the reader likes them or not. This place has gotten too snippy, and some feel entitled to jump on every comment with condemnation, while some become too thin-skinned, overly sensitive, and respond in kind. It's making the forum unreadable and gives members pause to contribute anything they may have to say that might be worthwhile.

As for Odell, I have to put some of the blame on Tom Coughlin for letting him get out of hand and not nipping his behavior in the bud. But, I know that he was on his way out and he was cautious about being heavy-handed. Of course, Odell probably would have gone down the same path, but who knows if mentoring and some discipline would have helped.

@TDToomer Daboll is in the same position that TC was in. His job is on the line. Regardless, it would be in everyone's best interests if he explained to Nabors that he needs a filter when dealing with the NY Media. You know as well as I do that they will spin and blow up every comment they can as being divisive. He doesn't have the most outgoing personality to begin with, and this is the second remark that criticizes either the team or the Coach. He can't wear his emotions on his sleeve. I think he's a good kid and he'll learn soon enough.

The Giants drafted Nabers, knowing he was a player who needed to be managed/babysat.  Those types of players tend not to do well when things go bad.

There is nothing Nabors said that was wrong or incorrect and he doesn't need to be spoken to. This is textbook making a mountain out of a molehill.

Nabors mouth and attitude can be a dividing voice in my opinion. Although I understand he is a talented player I am not a fan of him. Dropped too many important passes already and has basically already said his teammates are trash.
Ain't nothing to it but to do it!

That's just your opinion, and we will see how this plays out. Obviously, I disagree. Good teammates don't throw their HC or teammates under the bus. "I was Open." "The QB has to get the ball to the Receivers." "Washington has the right players, we don't." I wonder what goes on in that Locker Room...

Where is Bill Parcells when you need him.....he would handle most issues on this team much differently.
Starting with cutting a starter just to make a point! Aahhh the good old days

Wow. So who should get cut to teach Nabors a lesson to "shut up and catch the ball" as certain media personalities want all athletes to abide by?

The jawing with his buddy would've been less of an issue, in as much as it was an issue, had we won.
Of course it would.
But by far the bigger issue for me, and I should perhaps have limited the OP to this,  was the extravagant celebration when securing a first down whilst the team were down two scores.

And, yes, I'm aware this is generational,  the modern day NFL is theatre, this behaviour is ingrained in younger players etc.

On one level, I don't even have a problem with a celebration in those circumstances.

A rallying fist pump towards his team mates, a 'hands-up' gesture to the fans to get them going, type of thing.

But a 'look at me' dance when securing only a first down whilst down two scores doesn't sit well.

Should the lad be publicly flogged or even sat for a play? Hell no.

All I'd be looking at is a locker room veteran having a quiet word.....save the dances until we're two scores to the good, not two scores behind.......type of chat.
Smell my cheese you mother!

This is how I feel too. Nabers is not dissimilar to many star receivers around the league, past and present. It kind of goes with the territory.

Fans can and should feel however they want to feel, but my personal view is Nabers is the least of their problems right now.

If there is any leadership in that locker room his comments about teammates will be dealt with there.

I don't care that he talked to the guy that threw him the ball last year.  It's not like they are on the field at the same team regardless.

I think he is a bit immature and have to wonder if he has ever been on a losing team in his football life.  It can be tough to deal with when you were always the best and always part of one of the best teams.
