Also, with the way the season is playing out toward the draft, I'm not sure Jones isn't our day 1 starter in 2025.

I don't know.

I'm interested to see what happens with a different QB.

I take the point about why wait. I genuinely don't have an easy answer.

We gave Jones 6 years to find out he's not the answer. Surely we can give Daboll 2 years with his own QB.

If we give him 2 years with a new QB. That is still less time than Jones got.

I think Mara and Schoen have an understanding. Daboll will get 2 years with his own QB.

If he loses the team over the last 8 games, then all bets are off.

And that is more than fair, at that point, it is at the very least justifiable.

Does every topic need to devolve into the same two conversations?

The game of the week on network TV in Alabama is usually New Orleans or Atlanta, so I've seen my fair share of the Saints over the years. This firing was long overdue. This under-achieving Offense with baffling personnel usage finally comes to an end for the Saints fans.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant - Robert McCloskey (if he were on this Forum)

I would agree that giving any coach, no matter how weak a position he is in, a single "do or die" type year with a rookie QB is not really that great of an idea.

For those who want to fire Daboll as soon as literally right now: consider that you're talking about firing a coach who won NFL coach of the year as a rookie head coach for literally 1.5 bad seasons. One could argue that's a bit on the knee-jerk side. I'm not suggesting he has done a good job recently, but that's literally not even giving him two bad seasons. Moreover there's a difference between firing a coach after two bad season who is bad right from the get-go and firing a coach who had a very good first season and then two bad ones.

I don't think anyone is getting fired either in-season or at the end, personally. I think Mara feels that having a constant revolving door at the head coaching position is not a good thing, and I suspect (pure speculation here) that he is beginning to see the light about the one single constant on this team through all of this misery of the last five years.

By that count, Daboll has had 2 bad seasons at this point. The Giants were pretty poor in 2022 after the 6-1 start.

That's fair, although that line of reasoning also conveniently ignores the fact that he coached them to their only playoff win in the past decade-plus.

Most people feel how they feel and no amount of factual, unbiased information is going budge them off of their stance. Instead, they will counter with more information to bolster their position. It's maddening.

Still, I hope the Saints bounce back and start winning some more games.  ;)

Quote from: AYM on November 04, 2024, 02:35:04 PMWe brought in new talent this year. Nabers and Burns didn't come cheap. How's that working for us?

But they didn't fix the damned offensive line!!! They suckered us all on that one! They had us believe that Thomas was still good and now he's a broken-down salvage title!!!

How does an entire offense go down like dominoes when the left tackle goes down???

It has absolutely nothing to do with Nabers and Burns. Left Tackle is the issue!!!

Peace!!!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

The offense wasn't all that great when Thomas was playing though. The line itself was playing well, but the overall offense wasn't particularly productive.

So basically you are going to expose the new QB to Daboll who hasn't proven he is a QB guru, subjecting another QB to multiple coaches to start his career. Sorry but I can't go along with a coach with a losing track record. I want the new QB to be exposed to winner only.

We'd be a lot better off if the team had correctly evaluated that and not pretended we were now Superbowl contenders.

In 2022 when he took a QB with a very limited skillset and got him to play the best he has and won a playoff game, I didn't hear nary a peep from anyone about how bad a coach Daboll was. That was the very definition of making something out of very little. And now because he can't do it again, he's less of a coach?

There are things I wish he would do differently but I'm still in his corner. I accept your position, I just don't share it.
