We're still dead last in the league in points per game. He played well yesterday. He still stinks.

This is a case where statistics aren't telling the full story. Jones stunk yesterday in the first half and was serviceable at best in the 2nd half.

PFF grades are not based on stats.  They grade each play on a -2 to +2 scale

Just now on the NFL Network they had his numbers from the 1st half.
4 of 6 completions
0 yards
1 TD
109.7 rating.

Since the TD had to be for positive yardage, so at least 2 and probably all three of the other completions had to be for negative yards. That's an accomplishment certainly worthy of a 109.7 grade /sarcasm/  /sarcasm/ I watch him play EXPECTING negative outcomes. It's his norm.

This week it might not have but it would have won other games over his tenure and certainly would have won 3 if not 4 other games this year. Elite or even above average QB play would have produced a 6-3 record or a 5-4 record.

Jones simply is not a QB who can lead a winning team consistently, never has and all indications say he never will. Makes way too many mental and physical mistakes to regularly win.

The defense has been on a down turn the past 3 weeks more so than earlier so the gap in score grows.

I warned people that the early defensive "success" was a bit of an illusion due to the lack of threat of the offense scoring.   I pointed out then that most teams facing the Giants would answer a rare Giants score by immediately marching down the field and answer the score with their own score.

Quote from: Doc16LT56 on November 04, 2024, 12:36:02 PMThey've turned over the entire roster since Jones arrived... other than Dex and Slayton. They've turned over the coaching staff multiple times. The one constant throughout all the losing is the QB.

Hi Doc,

Once again I enjoy your thoughts but this was the exact same statement Giant fans said about Eli Manning the last few years, they blamed it all on him and they were wrong.

The team itself around him had major problems but he took all of the heat.

Washington was the second worst team in the league last year but currently stand 7-2. Not all of that is because of Daniels but I'd argue their record would be no better than ours if they didn't have him.

I heard a Washington beat reporter talk about the three changes this team had (owner, coaches, QB).  He ranked change in owner far and away the most impactful change

In fairness, if others around Jones executed properly, Jones first half stats wouldn't have looked so low. For instance, Jones threw a WR screen to Wandale and I believe, Runyon whiffed on the block causing negative yardage. I see other teams such as the Commanders throw WR screens and get positive yardage all the time. Not Jones fault that he ran the play called and Runyon and Wandale couldn't do their job.
Ain't nothing to it but to do it!

When you have a toxic, misogynistic, alleged sexual offender running the show - it's no surprise it's better without him.

In complete fairness, the Giants are a dumpster fire but comparing the running of both teams is not a fair comparison at all.

I think that ought to be patently clear.

I wouldn't disagree.  Yet, the odd thing is that the mom-and-pop loyalty, above all else, creates a lack of accountability and nepotism that can be just as damaging to an organization's successes as Snyder's toxic brand of ownership.

I'm not sure I agree with accountability. They chewed through 3 HCs in six years after sacking a hall of fame head coach. I think there's accountability aplenty and any like for like comparison with Synder leaves a real bad taste in my mouth, and I think we should be above that.

He's got a point. Snyder was the worst quarterback in league history. At some point it comes down to what the players actually do on the field.

during that time did

Chris Mara
Senior Player Personnel Executive

Tim McDonnell
Director of Player Personnel

lose their jobs despite having some of the least talented rosters in the league?

Did

Ronnie Barnes Senior Vice President, Medical Services/Head Athletic Trainer

lose his job despite injuries knee-capping teams for over a decade?

True, some people were thrown under the bus or held accountable, but clearly, accountability varies based on family relationships or sitting at an owner's deathbed for a week.
