Does this mean Greg Stroman inches up the depth chart?

I couldn't find it.
Saw it on twitter from a legit Giants source.  Will look for it.

Would appreciate that. Just too many false rumors around.
I just never heard of a player being asked to take a pay cut mid season. He has a contract for X dollars. Can they void a contract by releasing someone?

I think it's only for veterans with a certain amount of seniority that the salary becomes guaranteed at the beginning of the year.  But I don't remember the details.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

It was non-guaranteed off a free agent tender or something like that.

I listened to a couple of podcasts this morning.  Most said the Giants released McCloud to free up more cap space.  The team currently has a little over a million dollars left, and that's unlikely to last the season, especially at the rate at which Giants players get injured (the cost of replacements eats up the cap surplus).

Relative to his salary, he was playing well enough.

I can understand why he didn't want to take a pay cut.

Trading Slayton would have freed up some CAP space I think.

The wide receiver needy teams went early on their decisions which, I suspect, killed his market

Per Duggan at the Athletic, he seemingly doesn't understand the move to free up cap space as they could have restructured Burns to add 250k to his cap hit a year and it "wouldn't cause a ripple"

Moreover, he says " Cutting a player like McCloud over $1 million during the season sends a bad message for a regime that has preached so much about culture and competitiveness."

Both points are very true.

This should act as a reminder.   Fans often talk about having a player take a pay cut.  You always have to be prepared to cut them if they say no.

Yes but it should be done before the season not during. This does not reflect well on the Giants and I'm sure his teammates are pissed.

It doesn't sit right with me either. He's a productive player who's key member of the team. I agree it's not good for the locker room.

Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me...
