The Giants are in a 7 way tie for the worst team at 2-7

Again, we center the premise on the quarterback when, if you look at the whole thing systematically, the single point of failure (i.e. Thomas) has already been compromised and the dominoes have fallen one after another.

The offense can no longer compete to win. The defense can only hang on for maybe two and a half to three quarters at best. After that, the other team kicks it up a notch and leaves the Giants in the dust.

Face facts, the Giants do not have the horses to play a complete game and, as a result, will lose nearly all their games going forward. That includes the Munich, Germany game this weekend.

We've already established that Jones will not be here next season but don't hold your breath that Lock or Chicken Cutlets will either. The Offensive Line needs an overhaul and a Left Tackle should be Priority #1 in the draft since QB value will not align with where the Giants will likely draft, rank order-wise. They would be best served signing a starting place-holder until 2026 and take their chances.

Right now, the team is still playing hard for Daboll and that's a good sign. If they can continue to do so, throughout the rest of the schedule, regardless of what happens to the head coach, I think you have a nucleus with which to build upon with these rookies and some of the second-year players and free agency signings.

It's unfortunate but still not quite the ugly baby it was in 2021 when Fromm (or was it Glennon) basically took a knee on third down just outside his own goal line.

The three Strategic Imperatives I've called out, before the season started were, in my opinion, critical for the Giants to have a successful campaign. All three of them went RED but for reasons even I couldn't have possibly imagined.

The first was to fix the offensive line. The enablers were to hire a new line coach to improve technique, develop team synergy to improve pass protection and increase rushing performance. For the first third of the season, the results were trending in the right direction. Then came the loss the Thomas and, as I've sounded like a broken record, they all fell like dominoes ever since. Even though that is not entirely true, with Tracy Jr. breaking out into a stand-out rookie performer, and Singletary providing some tough yards, the pass protection has become a liability and defenses now pin their ears back since the offense threatens nobody. It is broken, period.

The second was to narrow the gap between themselves and their "key" NFC East rivals (i.e. Dallas and Philadelphia). Not only could they not score TDs against a decimated Dallas team, they were blown out of their own stadium by the Iggles. Making matters worse, they were swept by the "team formerly known as the Redskins" with the rematch a cat and mouse game the visitors took great delight in toying with their hosts. This imperative has been an abject failure now that they have proven they've fallen far behind all of their division rivals with no hope in sight.

The final imperative, to improve their Lost Man-Games due to Injury, has been an issue not so much in terms of quantity but in quality of players. Both punter and kicker have been injured, as well as the backup kicker (NOTE: this has been the most bizarre run of injuries hitting the kickers in the history of the team), Andrew Thomas, Thibs and a couple of others. It is fascinating that Gano's injury in Week #2, and not having a backup dressed that day, ultimately cost the Giants a win. Losing Thomas, for all intents and purposes, ended the season for the team. So the total number of Lost Man-Games may end up being lower than in previous years; however, the impact of those who were injured have devastated the team in their ability to compete.

They didn't get to 2-7 by accident. Their plans were tenuous and mostly single points of failure with a high degree of risk built in. The risk factors evolved into issues and any ability for the Giants to be able to win games evaporated when Thomas went out for the rest of the season.

Will the team end up 2-15 when it is all said and done? It is highly unlikely but you never know. We shall see.

Peace!
