Maybe Hyatt ran the wrong route but how sure are we of that, considering all of the criticism of Jones about misreading coverage and poor decisionmaking?

I always thought Neal had game but was injured 90% of the time he has been with the team. It could be that he is finally healthy, had time to condition, with a new OL line coach and is finally showing what made him a top draft pick to begin with.

With Thomas hurt and likely becoming damaged goods, and with the season in tatters, I kind of hope that at some point they let him play at LT to prove or disprove whether he can do it.  That's what he was before the Giants drafted him and moved him to RT.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on November 10, 2024, 10:06:44 PMCoach owes us nothing.  Coach needs to keep things in house and win games.

If the Giants have a coach who isn't putting in the guys he thinks give the team the best chance to win, then this is way worse than I ever an imagined.

The idea a coach would put his job on the line for some bias against a player seems completely off the wall to me.  I would like to hear the reaction if someone called into a radio show with former players and coaches and suggested that.

I wouldn't characterize it as Hyatt is better yet is still not playing. Slayton has been pretty good this year. Daboll may think Slayton is the better player right now. My main gripe is we aren't giving Hyatt who showed flashes last year in an even worse offense (if you can believe that) a chance to develop and get better.

You don't get better at a job by not doing it. Slayton is what he is at this point but Hyatt has a chance to turn into more if given a fair shot to do it.

This is yet another lost season. The only things they should be focusing on are securing the #1 pick and developing the young players like Neal and Hyatt. But I'm not sure that's what we're going to get.

Regarding Daboll and his odd penchant for dealing with rookies, I wonder why Chatman barely played yesterday against such a weak team.

He is so odd when it comes to developing rookies

I believe Hyatt caught everything that his hands touched.  Cant do better than that.  Slayton cant do that.

I also hope they try Neal at OLT.  Thomas is breaking down each year.  They need to find his replacement.

Thomas is not going anywhere and was playing at a high level before his injury.

While Neal looked good in his start against the Panthers, I think it's worth noting the Panthers don't have any pass rushers that are good.

Thomas seems to play a 1/2 to 2/3s of a season every year.  He is going somewhere which is off the field.  We need someone to back him and replace him in due time.  Love to see if Neal is a OLT.

That's never stopped Neal from looking like absolute garbage before!  This was a nice step.

for reference, the last two seasons have been rough for him injury wise:

I don't see that Daboll has time to micromanage the defense when he has his hands full with the offense.

Was Chatman only on the field for 5 snaps because the Panthers were running all over the Giants?  They rushed the ball 32 times for 188 yards.  Chatman is mostly a pass rusher (if anything else)  and the Panthers only attempted 25 passes of which 15 were complete for 126 yards.

I am not suggesting I know the answer just suggesting that the way the game played out made for less snaps for chatman
