One interesting thing to look at is the O-line blocking breakdown.  The two OTs had excellent run blocking grades but poor pass-blocking grades

Belton had a horrific game.
Schoen struck gold with Tre.
The Center and both Guards had a good game in pass pro.
Tracy was banged for the drop, but it was a lousy pass behind him. I doubt Nabors could have caught that ball.

I doubt most of the Giants receivers make that catch, which is part of the problem.  When I watch other teams, especially the good ones, I see receivers bailing out their QB by making impressive catches on a regular basis.  With the Giants, the passes need to be near perfect, and even then, a catch isn't a sure thing.

I doubt most receivers in the NFL can't make that catch unless their name is in league with the A.J. Brown's.

And it was a stupid one-yard target on 3rd and 7 inside the ten.

This looks catchable to me

Horrible decision to throw that ball in that spot. Same as a horrible decision to try to throw the other ball which got  intercepted with the player right in front of him. The story of Daniel. They will talk of it for decades how they wanted him so badly to be the guy but no matter what, if you don't have "it" then you don't have it.

Thankfully it's about over.

The ball placement made that catch 100 times more difficult than it should have been. Yes it was catchable but if you're a NFL quarterback you've got to be able to place the ball better on a two yard pass.

If it were a twenty yard pass and you could time the route or have time to react to it. At that range, I could throw a pass to you and break your nose before you had time to react. So even a professional athlete would have difficulty running in one direction and then having to twist backward to get his hands in it.

So, in having gotten the highest rating of anyone on Offense and 3rd overall behind Phillips and Burns, there would seem no reason to add Evan Neal to the pile of crap now accumulating at the feet of Daniel Jones. While not to expect an improvement in accuracy with a change to Lock, he is at least more likely to find and to want to throw to guys deeper downfield. C'est vrai?

Cheers!

Ed,

I sort of doubt DJ decided to throw it there, I would think it was more where the ball ended up regardless of his intention.  As for reaction time, I agree I wouldn't have caught that ball.  That, along with a host of other reasons, is why no one is paying me to play football.  Still, the picture shows that regardless of reaction time, Tracy got his hands where they needed to be.   All that was left for Tracy to do was follow through and complete the catch.

Actually, you might want to keep your expectations down to cautious optimism Larry. Go back and review the film in Pass Protection. Let's see how he does against better competition. He was beaten several times on the inside because he still to this day opens his hips on the third step to overcompensate for slow feet, and he winds up leaning and gets off balance when he loses hand placement. I just watched Bobby Skinner's breakdown and it wasn't glowing. It doesn't look like he's ever going to correct bad habits, but it's his first game back, so let's see what happens.

@Painter

Plus, one shortcoming in the PFF grading system is there no accounting for the level of competition a player faces.   There is a reason the Panthers are second worst in the league when it comes to sacks at 1.2    sacks per game.
