So if the goal is to target the 2026 draft class who should play QB next year?  And what if that QB helps improve  their record to 8-9?

I get the logic just not sure of the practicality.

How do you tell Dexter Lawrence, "just play your ass off and fight off two 325lb guys at a time while we wait until 2027 to be competitive".  His

That doesn't even take into account the coaching and GM situation.  I know some want Daboll gone and others think he should have a chance to coach a different young QB.  So are those in favor of Daboll being Giants HC for a new QB willing to give him the job no matter what until 2026?  Better yet, do you think it's realistic that he can keep the locker room together this year, never mind next year and 2026 while that QB develops?

I'd be on board with grabbing QB Diego Pavia as a switchblade do it all player late in the draft, and holding steady until 2026. That or signing Darnold, Brisset as a placeholder.

It's silly to tank another season for one specific QB because the odds of that actually working are astronomical.  As would be the price to move up if you don't actually acquire the #1 pick.

The Giants are much better off playing out the string this season in which they essentially tanked just by playing Jones so much and getting their man here.  While there aren't any Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels level prospects in this class there's plenty in the JJ/Nix/Penix range to choose from and if things keep going the way they've been going they'll get to pick their favorite.

I agree; you don't do it for a specific QB.

Haven't been watching nearly as much college football but what I have been reading says there isn't many in that McCarthy/Penix/Nix type of group.

Do you have some guys in mind?

Sanders is the top guy with the most physical tools.  He'll likely go #1 overall.  After him I like Cam Ward a lot but others are a little scared off of him.  Jaxon Dart is really playing himself into consideration.  Jalen Milroe is an athletic freak when it comes to running the ball but the passing numbers aren't quite there.  I usually wait until the end of the season to really dig in but those are the guys that stick out to me at this moment.

I was thinking of Archie going back to last year but like others have said it's not like we can just go get him.  He might not even declare in 2026 I don't think.

My bigger concern is we take the next Bryce Young or Blaine Gabbert in 2025.  I don't have a good feeling about it.  Take another blue chip prospect or maybe even trade the pick for a King's ransom giving us 2 #'1 in 2026.  It's a mess right now, we need a QB, but I just don't see it next year.

Milroe is interesting to me. If the gurus say he has arm strength, quick release, it factor, instincts etc then I'd take a shot

Feel like I have watched Milroe the most of any of those QBs and to me he looks like a poor mans Jalen Hurts and I don't see Hurts as a rich man's QB.

He has been unimpressive in big spots.  Has obvious physical talent but so does Anthony Richardson.

Fair enough. I have only seen clips

Thinking of doing a full write up on the top 10 Qbs for this class and next year if you think it'll help everyone get a better idea for who's available.

I like that idea

Quote from: kingm56 on November 11, 2024, 07:03:19 PMI will submit my knowledge on college football prospects is well below most here; however, I'm not really enamored with any QB in this draft class.  In short, I agree that 2026 is the best year to secure our future; I'm ok with starting a 'Curtis Painter' type QB to ensure we get the best possible draft pick.

I have little knowledge of college but other than his name I don't get the big attraction.  Looking at his stats I don't see STAR jumping off the page.  Thinking that because his name is Manning he is going to be great (or even good) is the kind of magical thinking that Mara engages in.  Shouldn't we be better than that?
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Jess ( @Jclayton92 ) has a great breakdown of the college QBs in another thread.  Highly recommended.
