Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 16, 2024, 06:31:23 PMJust based on the casual tape you've seen on him would you sign up for us using our top pick on the best available prospect likely an elite corner and grabbing Milroe at the top of the 2nd or at the end of the 1st. Because I think I would currently, he's got the legs, and he has a cannon for an arm, he's fearless. He's just raw and I think Daboll could mold him, and legs/cannon translate regardless of competition.

Give me the elite corner and then Drew Allar at the top of the 2nd. I would LOVE to see what Daboll could do with him

He was pretty impressive today.

Ed...... i've agreed with a lot of the stuff you said about other quarterback prospects throughout the years. I ask you to look at some of his other tape on other games. This kid seems like he's getting better and better. He actually looks at his progressions...... He looks like he can read defenses and he seems like he can view the entire field. I don't know if he's a day one starter, but sitting him for a good portion of next year would probably pay dividends. In the right hands, I think you could be something pretty damn good in this league and you cannot teach 6 foot five. He's got the Proto typical body of a quarterback you want. Very cerebral

I plan on it. I'd like to see him in a Bowl Game. With some help, it's possible.

Quote from: Ed Vette on November 16, 2024, 08:18:37 PMI can't say at this point, but If the first pick is top three, I would prefer a QB. I think once it's all sorted out, Milroe may wind up in the top ten. There's just too much hype and too many teams looking for a young QB to develop. This year so far Daniels, Maye and Nix all look like the real deal. McCarthy never had a chance and I expect Williams to get better. Their success is going to have an influence on the 2025 Draft. I think teams will take chances. 4-5 can go off in the top 15. There's a lot more film to watch for me. Can you imagine a scenario where the Giants trade out of that pick? I can.
That's what I am hoping for, us trading for a ransom. The Qbs will push the rest of the board down and there are a TON of defensive and offensive talent on day 2 and 3 this year. Using a transitional Qb this upcoming season and really bolstering the team, with the assets to go all in on 2026.

I saw him live vs Ole Miss in the peach bowl last year and Ole Miss had an Average Defense. One looked like a pro prospect and Allar didn't. I do think a lot of that has to do with the lack of talent around him but the best supposedly elevate the people around them. He has all the tools without question, I just dont know his mental makeup.

He has taken a step forward from last year which was his first season as a starter. Big improvement in completion percentage. Still, he struggled with Ohio St. But he's in good company. Pull out the Duck's game and OS gives up 8 points a game. Rushing for 200 yards a game is a good recipe for success.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 16, 2024, 06:49:19 AMThey were generally positive in their scouting report.  To them, the bottom line was they didn't believe he had elite potential.   The idea was to become elite; you either have an elite arm or you scare defenses with special running ability.  They felt Sanders lacked either trait (they didn't consider his arm a liability but they felt it simply isn't special).

They felt that the NFL comps were late-career Geno Smith or maybe Tua.   They thought his potential ceiling was maybe Burrow (not a lot of confidence that his ceiling is that high)
Physical gifts and talents can certainly elevate a player to elite status.

I believe mental talent (processing, vision, quick decision-making) are even more valuable than physical. A mentally-tough player can overcome physical limitations.

From what I have seen, young QBs can lean on their physical talents while developing the mental part of their game.   I rarely see a QB lean on the mental part of their game while they develop the physical.  Sure, you can see guys like Richardson and Willis who prove to be physically gifted don't ensure success, but when you watch guys be drafted and developed in the league (Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Herbert) you see being special in at least one physical category gives a QB a leg up on success.

When you look at the list of elite QBs, it's full of QBs who are gifted in at least one of the physical areas.

That said, I just did a breakdown of what I look for in QBs, and consider the mental one of the three areas critical to a QB's success.

I dont like the comparison of Milroe to Lamar because until recently, Lamar was not very accurate throwing the ball especially when his feet were still.  Milroe may run like him but he is much more accurate at this stage of his vareer than Lamar was.

I think that is a fair point. However, Lamar's pocket game has improved as he has developed in the NFL.  So, the comparison is better if you compare Milroe to the more current version of Lamar.

I didn't even put Lamar Jackson in the first round draft category back in 2018. To his credit, @Bob In PA got it right on Lamar. I didn't see him as a good prospect compared to Allen and Mayfield.

I would argue Drew Brees, Kirk Cousins, and Eli Manning are examples of players whose physical ability isn't as great as other QBs - but their mental processing, competitiveness, and "it" factor are simply different.

If there was a way to look at the highest % of 4th quarter comebacks I would imagine it's not always the most physically talented QB on the top of the list. Maybe I'm wrong who knows.

I will give you Brees and Cousins; Manning's arm talent was underrated.  There was a reason he was the first pick in the draft.
