Would you trade our #1 pick for Cousins

I am still in the camp of picking up a bridge QB and drafting the best Left Tackle in the April '25 draft to account for Thomas who, is now a "salvage title" player going forward, and position the team to be able to draft a QB in 2026. Weighing out all options, I believe the risk is greater at Left Tackle, that Thomas won't be the same player, than to draft a QB in '25 with the talent caliber not as strong as it will be the following season.

Cousins, especially with a new LT from the draft, could come in and do some things; however, it becomes a salary cap issue at that point which I'm not willing to get sucked back into after having spent three seasons having my hands tied behind my back and only stepping forward recently to upgrade both lines. If I am the GM, I'm not sold this transaction works with the direction I want to go with the QB position.

If Daboll survives this season, and identifies a prospect who can be drafted in a lower than first round spot, or at a lower first round position, perhaps the Giants can trade down and gather multiple first round picks and still get their prospect. Of course, that puts my strategy at great risk.

Until we know where the Giants will be picking, it's still too early to make a decision on this question.

If we trade for Cousins, we most likely won't be picking in the top 10 for the next two seasons. So forget about any shot at Arch or any other elite QB prospect during that period.

If the above is wrong and we actually still are picking in the top 5 or 10 with Cousins as our QB, then by definition it was a terrible trade. If he's not going to make us at least a .500 or better team, then it would be stupid to give up draft capital for him and pay his big salary.

I just struggle to see how doing this fits in with any sort of macro long term planning for this franchise. To me, it does little more than make us watchable/serviceable for a couple years. As a fan, I want our front office and ownership to have bigger aspirations than that. Even if it means being patient.

Why Jeff?  Who is giving two 1sts for a 37 year old QB?  I am thinking a 2nd or 3rd rounder

I'd take Travis Hunter and a bridge Qb while saving assets for 2026.

I don't want to trade for Cousins under any circumstances. It would cost us too much.

I'd rather get our QB, find a solid vet that the rookie and sit and learn from for a year, then unleash him after that.

Ok, It seems as if the Steelers might have an extra QB, with Wilson and Fields. Do they keep both.

Just think we could have had Wilson for about 1-2 mil if he were even given a shot at starter. But no, he was told he would have to be a backup to Jones. Boy, that was smart.

But then we wouldn't have been able to finally properly evaluate Jones (in year six).

For better or worse we draft a QB. Need that cheap pay scale to see what he has and also build around him.

If we are not in range of Sanders or Ward, Milroe and Dart could be options. I just hope they stay away from Ewers.

If they can get Allar in 2/3, he could be an intriguing later round option.

To be honest, I'm not sure that trading for someone like Kirk Cousins wouldn't be the worst thing this team could do. Cousins is obviously an upgrade to Jones but still just a mid-level QB who, himself, comes with a pretty hefty price tag. Giving up both cap space and draft capital to bring in somebody that doesn't immediately elevate us to championship caliber is a waste. Bringing in a bridge guy like Darnold or Winston at a fraction of the price without trading picks is a much smarter move.

Atlanta has to move on from Cousins as they drafted Penix #1. Would you trade our #1 pick to Atlanta for him? If we did, we could have a decent enough QB for the next 5 years and then draft a QB in a lower round for suture consideration.
I don't know draft day values, but Cousins can win and isn't that the point?

If he were a free agent, acting as a bridge QB, no problem - if they could afford him.

But wouldn't have to trade picks away for him.

I also am not so sure ATL has to move on from Cousins cause of Penix.

They have a 5th year option, and with his injury history, redshirting him two years could actually do the guy a world of good. Being on the sidelines for a year or two has proven beneficial for many in the past.
