They have a 5th year option, and with his injury history, redshirting him two years could actually do the guy a world of good. Being on the sidelines for a year or two has proven beneficial for many in the past.

That was the OLD NFL, in today's NFL most high draft picks at QB are thrown to the wolves as soon as they can be. The days of sitting for a year seem to be long gone. Look at basically all the top-drafted QB's are starting now and hopefully improving as the season goes on.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Jordan Love? Mahomes?

It still happens just not as often, maybe that is part of the NFLs problem right now. Maybe a few more would turn out better if they did.

Agreed

Keep in mind Penix was in college literally forever and came into the league on the old side for a rookie. He turns 25 in spring. It's not like he was some 20 or 21 year old who came out as a sophomore. He was in college for six years. You don't draft a 24 year old 8th overall to be some 3 year developmental project. If they liked him so much that they wanted to draft him in the top 10 right after paying up for Cousins, he should not have been a multi-year project.

Put another way, if they knew before the draft that they were definitely going to be able to get Penix, I'm not sure I buy that they would have paid up for a more expensive QB like Cousins prior to the draft.

Quote from: LennG on November 16, 2024, 11:51:48 AMAtlanta has to move on from Cousins as they drafted Penix #1. Would you trade our #1 pick to Atlanta for him? If we did, we could have a decent enough QB for the next 5 years and then draft a QB in a lower round for suture consideration.
I don't know draft day values, but Cousins can win and isn't that the point?
No absolutely not
