Exactly - the focus is now on next year and beyond.  I think it's one of few false narratives that the Giants GM or HC jobs are in jeopardy this season, unless one of them has a meltdown akin to JJ.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 18, 2024, 09:07:27 AMWith the Giants starting DeVito, I really wonder why the team wasted $5 million on Lock and how good are Schoen and Daboll at identifying QB talent (if they spent $5 million on Lock only to start DeVito)
Me too......sounds like a coach and GM feeling pressure...they know that Devito may scrape out  a win or two down the stretch.....but putting Lock in and losing ala Jones and or winning more than a couple of games might signal to some that their evaluation process and coaching decisions on playing personnel are very suspect.
Which I think is the case either way.
The decisions not to keep some good starters , Love, McKinney and of course Barkley for example .....and not to have adequate replacements or newcomers with promise ( exception being Tracy) and not properly addressing the o line (as well as drafting very average at best lineman with relatively high picks). While all the time saying and paying Jones as "the guy" .
Ugh!

Smart people around the league and knowledgeable football people in media etc. on the outside of Giants "brain trust" previously known in years past as "Mara Tech"  see the shortcomings of Shoen and Daboll.....
Yes There should be some pressure on both of them and they know they have to produce a better product soon...will that happen another year with a better QB ? Maybe , maybe not.

But how this team plays with a different QB for the remainder of the season will give all a good answer to the question, who should be making decisions for the Giants next year.

Two things remain a constant for the Giants...
1. Every close game won or lost  you need to say in the words of Yogi "it ain't over til its over"
And
2. There is never a dull moment with this team ...

I think they want to see if Tommy can be the backup next season, after a year in the system. I'd like to see substantial improvement. As far as the team goes, last season Tommy energized them when they were down. I don't know as a fan favorite if that plays into the equation. Of course they won't admit that. Holding Lock back with no film, gives them an opportunity to resign him next season if need be.

Glad to see you have a magic crystal ball and can see the future, what pick do the Giants end up with, who do they select, and who is the GM making the pick?
Was this necessary?

It's the right move and the unofficial end to yet another disastrous season.

For those thinking about Devito winning "like last year", do you think the defense will start taking the ball away like last year when he was at the helm?  In his 3 victories the D had 12 takeaways. Maybe they have it in them.

Lock was only going to start if Jones was not ready week one or got injured and the Giants were playing competitive football. In a lost season this is the move to make. Lock could still play if DeVito looks bad. Also it may be because the coaches see that Lock looks bad in practice compared to DeVito.

I'm waiting for the reports from Daboll's Zoom. Art reported that it had nothing to do with Locks' incentives. I think you could be right about how they practiced. If Tommy knows the system better, that's bad for Lock. They will probably come out saying they believe Tommy gives them the best chance to win. I want to know why.

If they think Tommy gives them the best chance to win then Lock should be starting.

They don't get paid to lose games. They find a way to lose anyway.

Do you believe John Mara would sign off on tanking?

Still twisting and turning so some folks can lay blame on Schoen/Daboll instead of Mara/Gettleman AND what was a terrible stroke of misfortune involving Daniel Jones's one and only and never again Playoff game winning season.

The challenge now is not whether they should start De Vito or Lock, although they no doubt have a particular reason for the decision, but whether when faced with the uncertainly that always attends the Draft, and more so if seeking a better starting QB, they can and will avoid being fickle fingered by some Disenchanted Drafting.

Who Can Explain It, Who Can Tell You Why? Fools give you reasons; Wise men never try.
