Quote from: T200 on November 18, 2024, 08:58:31 AMThere's not one iota of evidence that points to them believing Jones was the future of this franchise.

They will get exactly one shot at picking THEIR QB.
There is strong evidence to show the did NOT believe he was the future.  One of Schoen's first moves was declining to pick up his 5th year option.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on November 18, 2024, 08:38:46 AMThe Raiders and Browns could very well lose out the rest of the season and be picking ahead of us.

Why would 2 teams - who are as desperate or more than we are for a franchise QB - trade out of their spot and lose their chance to select a QB?

They won't. Plain and simple. It's going to come down reaching for Milroe or taking someone like Will Johnson.

Reaching for a QB is how we got to this position, and I'm not interested in doing it again. Load up on BPA and take a QB later in the draft.
Are you insinuating that teams picking ahead of the Giants have the option to decline to trade down with the Giants just because the Giants fans are saying Schoen has to trade up regardless of cost?  Interesting.

Quote from: T200 on November 18, 2024, 09:05:00 AMI'd rather have Lock than DeVito. We need to lose as many games as possible to get to the #1 spot. Lock gives us that chance.

DeVito won us meaningless games last year and we've spent the better part of this season wishing he didn't. Deja vu all over again.
Defense had 12 takeaways in his 3 wins.  Not sure that happens again.

He was 1/2 right so far in that Jones sucks.  We do not yet know if the Giants are indeed better with DeVito at QB.

To be fair, we also never got a chance to find out whether or not Usain Bolt would have saved the franchise coming in as a wide receiver for us, as BluesCruz repeatedly claimed for a period of time.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 18, 2024, 03:39:20 PMTake your pick:

1) The Giants management made a mistake signing Lock as the backup for $5 million

2) The Giants comp pick formula is slightly better if Lock takes less snaps

3) With incentives the Giants have less of a cap hit if they don't play Lock

4) Lock won't be on the team next year but Devito might. And you don't need a veteran backup if the season is already over.

Bottom line is there's a lot of good reasons to not play lock and I can't think of a single reason to actually play him over Devito.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 18, 2024, 02:40:32 PMTrue, but the Giants can't say they are benching Daniel Jones because of his contract, as former GM Mike Lombardi pointed out.  As Mike said, the Giants don't want to have a grievance filed against them by the NFLPA.
You keep harping on this.  The Giants do not need to say it because even Helen Keller can see that they are justified in benching Jones for his performance.  We do not know if DeVito will make them better.  What we do know is Jones is lousy so let's see what else we have.

LOL. Right?!? It's crazy to me how fans treat draft trade-ups or trades, in general.

"I can't believe Schoen didn't trade McKinney!" Who was going to give up real assets for someone they could just sign in the offseason.

"I can't believe Schoen didn't trade Ojulari!" The Falcons offered a 6th. The same fans slamming Schoen for not making fantasyland trades are the same ones who would be slamming him if he settled for the realistic returns available.

Well I'll be happy to go on record saying I do know the Giants WILL be better with Devito.

More like right after Schoen's presser. I said why Schoen made the point of saying it was a football issue and you and others couldn't respond quick enough telling me I didn't know what I was talking about.  Then when a former GM said the same thing, radio silence.  As for the team with DeVito at the helm, I couldn't help but notice ESPN's odds for the Giants getting the first overall pick nearly doubled with the move.

Quote from: LennG on November 18, 2024, 05:36:26 PMI have never given Daboll a pass anywhere. I have been on his case basically ever since the kicker game. Personally, I don't think he will ever be a big-time HC. But you are relentless in your criticism of both Daboll and Schoen. T thread after t thread, article after article, you find something you beat it to death. (as some do about Jones)> It just gets monotonous after a while.

You know what is tiring?   Guys like you still kicking Jones after he is benched and his career with the Giants is over.  We had to listen to you bash the man for 6 years.  Isn't time to give it a rest?

If you don't think that was on their mind, then I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.  Of course they can't come out and say it. I do not need a former 1-year disaster of a GM to confirm it.  However, thanks to how Jones has played, they do not need to come up with some wild excuse.  His play warrants the benching, end of story.  The injury guarantee is gravy.

Quote from: MrGap92 on November 18, 2024, 03:38:07 PMIt is a truly sad state of affairs Giants fans live with, regardless of where we all stand on various subjects, we all probably unanimously agree on this.

This is about the best summary of this thread that I've read thus far.

Thank you, Gapper, for taking the time to articulate precisely what I'm thinking, at the very least, and I'm sure many are as well.

From a football standpoint, it was necessary. Yet, on a personal level, especially when we look back many years from now, and can view this both more objectively and systematically, it was indeed a sad tragedy which should never have happened, but only in a place that can describe their perpetual buffoonery as "The Wilderness Years, Part Deux."

Rest in peace, Daniel Jones.

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

For the record, I was never a Jones fan. Nothing personal. I never saw franchise or elite in him. Even during 2022. Off that season he made enough money to take care of a generation or two of Jones's. He did very well for himself in a cruel business. I wish him well.

I agree; worse, it doesn't appear that this team is poised for a fast turnaround.

When you consider what teams need to be successful

1) GM-  Schoen-  At best, this grades out as TBD

2) Head Coach-  At best, this grades out at TBD, and that may be generous

3) Franchise QB-  The path to getting one is far from clear or apparent

4) Roster talent- The Giants have one of the least talented roster in the league

That doesn't fill me with a whole lot of optimism for the future.
