This team is starting to become horrificly unlikable.

I'd like to know who specifically is saying this, so I don't have to apply the loser mentality to the entire team. But we've got some real sad sacks.

The losing is in the walls now. It's being rationalized everywhere you look. How to fix is anyone's guess! I'm beginning to understand why George Young was forced on the org decades ago. They can't have the biggest market in the world being incompetently managed, with a loser mentality. But here we are.

You're not wrong but I think there is some difference if fans (and maybe more importantly ownership) see effort on the field.  If for example, a pretty hapless Saints team comes into NJ on 12/8 and beats the Giants 38-3, I think takes it to another level.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 21, 2024, 08:10:51 AMI appreciate some believe that players see the bigger picture and the benefits of tanking, but since DJ's benching, I have heard many more people with first-hand NFL experience reiterate that players go out there putting their health (and potentially their careers) on the line every game.  They go out there to win, and the fastest way to lose a locker room is if the players feel like their coach or the organization doesn't share their desire to win.

By going with DeVito, Daboll went all in.   Either DeVito provides a spark like last year and Daboll and Schoen come out smelling like roses, or DeVito crashes and burns.  If DeVito crashes and burns, Daboll loses the locker room, and he's gone.  At that point, Schoen should be a little nervous about his future with the team.

It will be interesting to see how Schoen and Daboll's all-in bet plays out.

If they "go out there to win," then their loyalty to DJ is misplaced. As you've quoted Bill before "you are what your record says you are."

I believe the players appreciate Jones' work ethic, his classy nature and don't take kindly to him being embarrassed to 4th string. It's a bad look, no doubt..overkill..and Daboll is grasping at straws here.

Yes, he should be benched with his ineffectiveness and injury clause but not humiliation. Players in the locker room get it, and DeVito better play his ass off.

It's akin to to giving Sonny Corleone a extra few slugs and a kick in the head when he's dead. Why? Bad look for the organization...

Quote from: uconnjack8 on November 21, 2024, 11:54:02 AMI don't know what to believe when it comes to this stuff, but it's certainly not outrageous to think players are frustrated during the home stretch of a 2nd consecutive lost season.

Finishing your 3rd season as HC with a 2-15 record is not a "very good" scenario for the HC even if it might be for the organization.  If we are seeing smoke now and the team is 2-8, I would guess things will get worse with each loss and have the potential to really boil over and create an untenable atmosphere.

I get the idea that losing is likely the best case scenario for the team. I just have a hard time thinking that management/ownership can look at the first Giants HC to start consecutive seasons 2-8 and think they have the right guy. I am picturing them trying to rationalize it to the NY media by saying it their QB guru HC couldn't win because of the QB.

I am not putting it all on Daboll or saying I think he is a bad HC, but he has a certain amount of culpability as does pretty much every other person in the organization.

If I'm Joe Schoen, some of the conversations that should have been had center around the QB that the owner heavily influenced Schoen and Daboll to keep. Mara can't justify firing Daboll when he saddled him with a QB that couldn't move the ball downfield and put it in the end zone on a regular basis. People pay good money to attend the games and Jones only had one game at home with a passing TD. Unacceptable. That's the QB Mara wanted, that's the results we got.

A QB (regardless of talent ceiling) should be as well year to year (unless they are nearing the end of their career) or get better the longer they are coached by a QB guru.  Instead, we saw DJ play well (but not quite good enough) but get progressively worse with each season to the point that this season could reasonably described as DJ's worst season of his career.  Hard to see how that doesn't reflect negatively on the QB guru HC

So, you think Daboll is coaching Jones to not throw to open receivers?  You think Daboll is agreeing with Jones that guys were covered?  Aside from the flea-flicker, do you not see how frustrated Daboll is with Jones on the sidelines when tv shows it?  Ask anyone who coaches, sometimes players are coached up all week and then just revert to their old ways come gametime.

I think the focus is why DJ got worse the longer Daboll coached him.   If DJ hadn't played significantly better in 2022, you could chalk it up to the QB not having the capability.  When a QB gets worse, as we witnessed with DJ, the question is, "Why?"

Schoen can only put so much lipstick on this pig.  Telling your boss that it's his fault is never really a good option in my experience.

There is a plenty of other culpability besides jones.

I think depending on what the product on the field looks like the next 7 weeks, Schoen might not have a choice.

This is akin to saying Lewis Hamilton isn't a good driver because his engine has a misfiring piston.

It's not what is said but how it is said. There needs to be some accountability. If Mara expects Schoen to hold Daboll accountable (rightfully so) then he himself (Mara) needs to be held accountable.

I wish them good luck with that.

To be clear I am not saying Daboll should be fired, just think there is a reality with where things are headed that it's certainly a possibility.

There are sources and horses, and no question as to where my bet would go. However, should there actually be so called, disappointment- or are we to read, unhappiness? - then the players themselves are no less to blame for the circumstance, consequence and decision made than anyone else in the organization.

Cheers!

Understood. I'm already on record that if he loses the locker room, he's gone. Otherwise, I expect to see him on the sidelines next year, hopefully with a new QB and OC.

I would suggest it's more akin to say Hamilton's mechanic isn't very good
