Is anyone shocked when only our only 2 pro bowlers, leading receiver and QB have been extended beyond their rookie contracts and the rest are replaced by rookies?

Plus, they let 2 other Pro Bowlers (McKinney and Barkley) walk in free agency.  They also traded away Leonard Williams.

I have reached the conclusion that the overall age of the team is not all that important.   For the longest time, the Giants were drafting college players who were 20 or 21.  Thanks to NIL and the portal, college players are getting older.

It seems to me that today's NFL is all about salary cap rather than age.  The key way to keep a healthy cap is for lots of players at high-value positions to play well on their rookie contracts.

Now, circle back to drafting very young players (with limited college experience). It's true they are very young, but often, they take at least a year or two of their cheap rookie contract to reach their potential.  By the time they do, you get only a year or two on the cheap before you are signing them to big bucks.  A prime example is Andrew Thomas.   Flott and Wondale are two others that may fit that mold.

For the most part I would agree.  It is better to be younger than older when you're rebuilding of course but the rookie contracts are important.  You need guys playing on those contracts to play well if you are going to go out and sign a big time free agent.
