Andy Reid was a slightly above average HC until they brought in Mahomes.

I don't believe either is true BTW

It's never about just one guy. Belichik had a team go 11-5 with Matt Cassel.

Quote from: TONKA56 on November 25, 2024, 10:30:58 AMI regret that I can only like this post one time.

The wildcat sealed the deal for me. I've been a pretty staunch supporter of Daboll all along, but when I saw that I said "It's over. He's cooked."

You've got a young quarterback with marginal arm talent who just finally had a decent looking series with 1st and Goal and you do something high risk and completely unnecessary like that.

Not saying this is you, but I have also read from many people complaining about them being too predictable.  It is all about if it works.  They execute the plays whether it is something new or something they have been running, he is a genius.  They don't execute, then he is an idiot.

Quote from: Ed Vette on November 25, 2024, 10:44:16 AMThe point is he shouldn't be running his mouth to the press if he wants respect from his teammates. This time he threw them all under the bus. Mr. Oops, dropped another one.

It annoys me that people crucify Slayton for drops but give Nabers a complete pass.

Just had to mention that.

I totally understand what you're saying and I agree with you, but I felt this situation was on the bad side of the genius vs insanity line. Even if they had scored, it was a high risk maneuver that wasn't necessary. If they'd done something like that on 3rd down even it would have been more palatable.

Has there been "players only meeting" yet?

Exactly. He cost the team many times. One game too as I recall. Tyrone Tracy buried his head and cried. Nabors blamed the QB.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

That is normally held in lieu of venting to the press

Sure, as long as we can collect 12x HOF, AP, Ring of Honor and Pro Bowl players too, we can also just miss out on the playoffs:

Richard Seymour (DE) - Pro Bowler from 2002 to 2006.
Rodney Harrison (S) - Pro Bowl in 1998 and 2001 with the Chargers.
Mike Vrabel (LB) - Pro Bowler in 2007.
Matt Light (OT) - Pro Bowler in 2006 (also in 2007 and later years).
Logan Mankins (G) - Later became a perennial Pro Bowl selection.
Stephen Gostkowski (K) - Pro Bowler later in his career (2008, 2013, and beyond).
Tedy Bruschi (LB) - Pro Bowler in 2004.
Randy Moss (WR) - Pro Bowler numerous times, including prior to 2008 with the Vikings and Raiders (1998–2000, 2002–2003, 2007).
Wes Welker (WR) - Earned Pro Bowl honors starting in 2008 (and multiple seasons afterward).
Adalius Thomas (LB): Pro Bowler with the Ravens in 2003 and 2006.
Junior Seau (LB): Longtime Pro Bowler during his career with the Chargers (1991–2002).
Laurence Maroney (RB): Not a Pro Bowler but was an emerging key player.

Lets also forget this same team won 7 more games the following season; so, it appears it is about one person.

The notion that Lil Bill performed some type of coaching miracle in 2008 is completely mystifying....that team had 3 Hall of Famers (not including Brady) and slew of AP and Pro Bowlers...they had a LOT of talent.

You think it's fair to equate a WR making his 10th start to one playing in his 87th game?

That's not the point. The point is it's not all about Tom Brady or even all about the quarterback. But you knew that.

How do you explain the same team won 7 more games the following season when Brady returned?  They set an NFL record, going 18-0, which directly refutes your narrative. Brady was the obvious difference; so, it appears to be about the one person....

When you've got the former who runs his mouth and blames others and you've got the latter who's been a professional and gave up money to remain a Giant? Yawn.

Yawn...I hate it when facts get in the way of my narrative; heavens forbit we actually incorporate objectionable data into our analysis.  However, please continue with pressing the notion that Tom Brady wasn't the primary factor in NE's success....

What does any of that have to do with your stated assertion that fans criticize Slayton for drops, while absolving Nabors?  I suspect it's because the latter has a limited sample size; if the drops continue, he'll receive the same criticism.
