Why didn't or couldn't we just tag McKinney? And if he stayed crabby at at least he could have been traded.

Not a bad point at all

I don't know, Joseph. You don't build an Offense around a RB unless you have all the rest of the pieces in place which the Giants certainly do not in what already would have been Barkley's 7th season. In any event, that ship has sailed.

Moreover, Tracy- and Singletary-combined are on pace for a 1400-yard season which is more than Saquon's best 1312 in 2022. That, of course, is not meant to suggest comparable talent as Barkley has already gained almost 1400 through his first 11 with the EAGLES. But, it does point to the fact that the Giants 34-64 record during his 6 seasons was neither the problem nor the solution.

The problem was and is at QB post-Eli. Moreover, if we were again to think about winning with help from a Running game, it needn't be with the Giants 4th best ever, Boom or Bust Barkley, but might just as well have been as it was with 5th and 7th best Jacobs and Bradshaw. And in none of those cases was the team built around a Running Back nor is it with the Eagles today.

As for not retaining top players, I suppose the operative word is "top" which is how we see Barkley, Love and McKinney, but not Engram, Apple, or Flowers nor perhaps OBJ and certainly not Kadarius Toney and Daniel Jones.

As Dandy Don used to say, "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas."

Cheers!

Unfortunately, many of these players are positions that most do not feel are worthy of big money.  So, teams that do spend in those areas are those that are solid on that side of the ball and cap space to burn.

True, but for so as long as you aren't wed to an ever-escalating monster long-term QB/WR contracts while those other "bargain" positions are otherwise producing quite adequately.

Currently there are 18 QBs making between Mayfield's 100 million and Mahomes's 450 million total ranging between Mayfield's 33 mil and Dak Prescott's 60 mil per year. The other 80-odd QB are not just making less but far so; almost 3/4 of them are paid a "relative" pittance.

C'est la vie, say the old folks.

Cheers!
