Maybe the Giants shouldn't draft a QB in the 1st round

Remember how Josh Allen had serious accuracy issues. Lamar Jackson? Just a runner. And on and on. You will find flaws in anyone if you look close enough. Giants will draft a QB in the first round. Get used to it.

I was reading through some threads and thinking which flaws would people prefer given that all have some.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on December 01, 2024, 05:32:06 PMNone of the QBs in this draft class are going to move the needle in 2025. You're setting yourself up to be disappointed no matter what if that is your expectation.

50/50 at best, mock drafts and all the reporters and sites and stuff every year get more wrong than right. Just because they say it's a weak class means nothing.

Could it be true? Perhaps, but to take it as gospel is foolish. No one knows, that includes you, and myself.

If what we read or hear was always true...

Trubisky > Mahomes
Young > Stroud
Every drafted before him > Allen
Etc.....

I'll say this: I don't think Mara will want Deion Sanders haranging staff over Shedurr, which will inevitably happen, plus his entourage. Can't envision that scenario..and I'm not sold on him either no slam dunk.

Cam Ward is a great college playmaker but he has issues, too. Let's pretend we have the first pick of the litter..

Who's your guy?  Best player is Travis Hunter..

The Giants will draft a QB and also sign a QB like Fields, Winston or Brisket.

If the GM and coach feel strongly about a player and they've done their due diligence, then they should pull the trigger.

Clear-cut favorites fail all the time.

you mean due diligence as in resigning Jones to 140 million ?  /sarcasm/

I think my perspective on who is responsible for DJ's contract has been well-documented.  :ok:

But in case you missed it, Schoen DECLINED the 5th-year option for Jones. They knew from Day 1 they didn't want him. You know who did? Mr. "We Did All We Could To Ruin This Kid" did.

Exactly, people just want there to be something seriously wrong with Deion and make up stuff, I don't get it.

Philosophers

If there is one argument that favors Shedeur Sanders it's that he has won with less talent around him like Eli did at Ole Miss.  I remember Ernie Accorsi loved that.

Cam Ward and especially Jalen Milroe cannot make that claim.

I don't think he was going in that direction, but more concerned of a distraction, which we have to acknowledge that Neon Deon brought upon himself with declaring he would be a strong voice in where Shedeur and Travis would be drafted.

Quote from: brownelvis54 on November 29, 2024, 05:29:03 PMLooking at this draft, it looks weak as a whole. As it pertains to QBs, it looks like there is no clear cut #1 QB. Seems most have Sanders and Ward as the top two. It wasn't long ago Beck and Ewers were in the top 10 either. Milroe has been mentioned. Allar is one I like, but if I was him, I would go back to school one more year. Dart and Nussmeier are interesting.

None of the QBs mentioned seem to be day one starters. Most if not, all would benefit from sitting most if not all the 2025 season.

Question remains: Are we a Quarterback away from being a contender or threat in our division?

The Giants have terrible offensive and defensive lines, and picking another skill position player, such as a QB with the first overall pick, is a good idea? How'd that philosophy work out for Barkley and Dan Jones?

The Giants should trade down and get more picks. They have the worst roster of any NFL team and why Schoen made that ridiculous Burns deal giving him 145 million and also costing 2 high picks was very foolish. The money for Burns could have used to resign Barkley and McKinney sure All-Pro's this year with CAP leftover.

Teams that probably need a QB:

Raiders

Jets

Titans

Browns

Colts

Seahawks

Rumors have it that Saunders wants to go to the Raiders, so the Giants should see if teams that draft after the Raiders want to move up to take him.

I want a QB as bad as most here do too, but do you see a franchise QB in this draft?  The Giants have one of the worst offensive lines in the league.  It's a big reason why Jones failed.   It's hard to be productive when you're running for your life.  The Raiders do actually have maybe the worst offensive line in the league with little weapons outside of Bowers.  So, they will draft a QB that will be under immediate pressure, and he'll be throwing to a bunch of average receivers.  Yeah.  That sounds like success.

It's a viscous cycle.  the bad teams will reach for QB's early in the draft rather than picking "the best player available" and will continue to struggle because of it.

So, what should we do? When Baker Mayfield was a free agent, He went to the Rams, after I suggested we should go after him, he went to the Buccaneers and now getting paid. This summer I suggested Sam Darnold, most here was against it, now I see in threads, asking if the Giants should go after him at the end of the season. Too expensive now. Again, the Giants would be smart to try trading what might very well be the top pick in the draft to begin filling the many holes they have (like their porous offensive line).  Sign a gap quarterback until they can find a franchise passer down the line.

My FA QB's I would go after are Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota (both picked in 2015) and I would look hard at a QB that dropped and was there when we pick in round 2. Let him sit the entire year, whats the worst that can happen? To me we develop a starter or a cheap back-up.

Are you saying if there is a QB they love they shouldn't draft him because they need to add more pieces first?

Or if there is a QB you don't love they shouldn't draft him?

Peyton Manning was drafted to an awful team and they added pieces over time.

Funny, I don't recall that being a problem for us Giants fans when Archie Manning made clear in 2003 that Eli wouldn't play for the San Diego Chargers.

Did he declare that months prior to the draft? Funny but I don't seem to recall that. I'm well aware of inherent prejudice among some fans, and it's surely out there in this case, but not everyone is concerned. It doesn't help the young men's draft stock when dear old dad meddles before the pecking order is even set. He brought this upon himself, and the collateral effect upon both young men.
