Quote from: MightyGiants on November 30, 2024, 05:26:59 PMReworded:  How do a coach and GM with the clout of having just won an away playoff game against a 13-4 team and with the coach having the extra boost of being named coach of the year, not have the ability to tell an owner who we know only offer suggestions that they want to go in another direction?
If you feel they had the clout to do so, so be it.

I disagree.

The NFL is a competition.   If a head coach doesn't do things better than his peers, the team is handicapped.   It's not a coincidence that the Giants' four Super Bowl trophies were won while the team had HOF/Near HOF head coaches.
If that's how you want to distill it, so be it.

I don't agree.

Take whatever you want from it but this regime in year three is probably going to preside over the most season loses in franchise history.

It has no effect on next season.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 30, 2024, 05:12:30 PMConsidering it was DJ's rookie season, and DJ did a whole lot more scoring, it would be fair to say Shurmur did it better.

Considering neither Judge nor Garrett have jobs in the NFL, I can't see using them as the standard for what other NFL head coaches can do
Yet you routinely cite Mike Lombardi like he's some NFL savant.

Mike Lombardi knows a hell of a lot about football.   He struggled as a GM, but it doesn't negate his knowledge.   It takes more than knowledge to be a good GM.

Still if I was trying to defend Schoen by saying he is a better GM than Mike Lombardi, you could certainly call me on that.

Lombardi has trashed Daniel Jones on numerous occasions. He thinks the Giants were fools to give him that contract. He is way harsher in his talk about Jones than many here who have received criticism or the "hater" label for simply saying he is a middle of the road QB. Lombardi has been one of the biggest Daniel Jones detractors out there.

I don't recall any of his DJ takes being posted here. 🤔

I repeatedly posted them, but don't let the facts and all of that...

I took the onus by saying "I don't recall..." versus saying something like, "They were never posted."

See the difference?

Lombardi isn't a DJ fan.  When the Giants signed DJ he said he thought DJ had talent but he strongly felt the Giants overpaid.  Mike felt the Giants should have signed Barkley and let DJ hit the market.  Mike believed that the Giants could then sign DJ for much less.

Of course as DJ's struggles mounted, Mike's opinion of DJ dropped.

Still, I can't help but feel like there is a subtext that intelligent people are infallible or you can't disagree with them.  Neither are positions I would endorse.
