Wow. Wasn't long ago that people were talking about this guy as some sort of elite gem. Makes me feel less bad about Banks...

I liked Forbes when he was coming out.  I am baffled why he crashed and burned

So did I. I was aware that size was a concern, but I thought his talent would outweigh that personally.

Normally I'd say the Giants should take a look at him given our dearth of talent at the position, but if a successful defensive mind like Dan Quinn gave up on this kid to such a degree that he let him walk for nothing in the middle of a rookie contract, it's hard to imagine him flourishing in our organization.

Good point. However, it's a chance the Giants should take. They need CB help and Forbes has some talent. Maybe a change of scenery would allow for him to be at least backup worthy 🤷🏼♂️

I have no issue with picking him up on the cheap if the Giants can get him. He is crazy fast and, though skinny, has length and jumping ability.

It's pretty extreme to cut a guy in year two of a rookie deal though. And it's not like Dan Quinn is some dope when it comes to defense. So he must have been pretty awful there. No idea whatsoever if personality issues were part of the equation here. I have not followed his pro career at all.

If the Giants claim him on waivers, they pick up his first-round salary.

If they wait until after waivers Forbes is free to sign with any team

As an aside - aren't rookie contracts fully guaranteed? So Washington will be paying him for the next 2 years regardless?

If that's the case, I'd be swerving this kid. Must be some massive issue somewhere.

If a team claims him on waivers, it's my understanding the contract is transferred to his new team.  If he clears waivers, the Commanders are still on the hook.  Depending on how the contract was written, there could be offsets, meaning any salary Forbes earns while being paid by the Commanders gets paid to the Commanders.

This article appears to do a pretty good job of explaining what happened to him in the NFL

Pretty good summary. In short, "he plays soft in an increasingly physical passing game". The knock on him when he was in the draft, was that he was "too skinny"...the upside, was he was a remarkable "ball hawk", leading the nation in picks. Can a new team beef him up and get him to play more physical? That's the million-dollar question
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

Maybe someone can get him to be more physical, but I am reminded of the old saying:

Can't tackle and is afraid of contact. Sounds like he would fit right in on Bowen's squad. In all seriousness I want no part of this guy. Why on earth would we want another Tae Banks type who can't tackle properly?

I'd pick him up, not much downside to it at this point.
