I guess someone else will have to take over bashing the Giants with the exact same takes twice a week every week all year.

Good for Mike. He deserves it. I'm happy for him.

Strange for someone who was supposed to be a neutral commentator to maintain such an intimate relationship with Belichick despite not working for him for 6+ years.

I am sure Art's claims are supported by carefully vetted sources, and he is not just violating journalistic ethics by slandering a man to curry favor with the current incompetent regime who mismanaging the Giants  /sarcasm/

Jeff,

I never felt he was bashing the Giants.  I always got a sense that his criticism were intended to spur positive change.   Mike has repeatedly talked about how the league is better when the Giants are among the contenders.

That said, there was a rather odd comment Mike made a few weeks back.  I don't remember the first part, but the final part was along the lines of "I think Mara is doing that just to avoid having to interview Belichick"

Seeing how close the two men are, I wonder if there was frustration in the Belichick camp over a perceived lack of interest by the NY Giants.

More importantly, my team will like, and the fans will regret not having a well-informed gadfly espousing the problems in the Giants organization that have caused the decade-long drought.   Without someone informing the fans, the fat cats who have prospered at the expense of the Giant's success are no doubt resting easier after hearing Mike was tapped by Bill Belichick to be his GM.

I certainly won't miss him or his "contributions" to the NFL. Hopefully he's more successful there than he was in the NFL. Shouldn't be hard to do... bar is low.

Bye Mike.

Mike had a Podcast show with Bill Belichick and Matt Patricia.  I had only recently discovered it, only to have that gem ripped from me as well.  :(

Did you even listen to Mike?   The man learned football from the greats- Al Davis, Bill Walsh, and Bill Belichick.  While you may not have liked Mike's well-informed critics of the Giants, Mike was a great source of learning about the NFL at a very high level.  Outside of the great John Madden, I can't think of another person I learned more about football from than Mike Lombardi

I am a bit surprised to learn that a college football team of "students" needs a GM? Why do they even bother pretending they are at college and just add 32 of them into a semi-pro minor league?

Mike is very good at taking the 30,000 foot view and then zooming into the details. I haven't heard too many analysts who can speak with his clarity and insight. It's clear that he learned the game from some of the masters.

I am starting to hear people talking about college football as just another professional league and perhaps direct competition with the NFL.

It will be interesting to see if the relationship changes between the NFL and college.  Right now, the NFL treats colleges as partners who are their farm system to develop talent.  With NIL and GMs and paid players, will the NFL start to see colleges as both a farm system and as rivals.
