Brian Flores as HC in 2025

If we want to kill Schoen for the Daboll hire and for other things, that is fine. And if we want to kill Mara for hiring Schoen, that is also fine.

But I don't see how we can call for Mara to meddle less but then simultaneously criticize him for not overruling his new GM and forcing him to hire a coach that was not his first choice. That feels very inconsistent to me.
Ultimately it was a big mistake. Schoen and Daboll were a package deal. We all knew that from the get go, including Mara which was why the Flores interest at the time was a charade. Typical Giant mismanagement.

I think Mara made his view on Flores clear to Schoen but assured him it was his call. Much the way we all saw him do with Barkley.

Honestly he was the right hire since he had a successful coaching stent in the Miami two winning seasons was considered very difficult in Miami.
I don't disagree that there may have been some truth to it. I really don't know. I'm not a fan of the Rooney Rule.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Easy to say now that he would've been the right hire, but the Giants haven't been very good at picking head coaches lately.

When an employee sues a company, many companies look to fire that employee for other reasons, he's labeled as trouble. Ever if he dropped the suit against the Giants, what's to stop him from suing again when he eventually gets fired. And to use race as an excuse in today's world is even worse. Basically, I wouldn't want him working for me, would you?

I would trust Flores to do right by the players, but not by the organization sadly. It's not the 1960s anymore and Flores likely has no grounds for his lawsuit other than hurt feelings (which are pretty much all you need these days).

I think he's a great coach who could bring some much needed energy and discipline to the team, but we ended up hiring the wrong Brian and that ship has sailed.

Unless flores explains how he would handle a rookie QB
Tua called him out
No matter what you think
That is important

Very valid point that should not be overlooked.

This would have to be an important discussion point throughout the interview process, and it would also be among the questions I'd be asking in speaking to various references both in the Dolphins organization and around the league who know Brian. The Giants would need to come away from that exploration fully satisfied that he is the right guy for the job.

Tua's comments were pretty scathing and should be taken seriously. However, just because Tua said that does not mean he can't be a good coach. I thought the way Flores responded to the Tua comments showed class and maturity.

I'd respect Mara less for hiring someone who has a lawsuit against him.  Flores is not an only option.

That holds for any head coaching candidate, but who's going to determine if he gives the right answer, John Mara? Should all rookie QB's be handled the same?

Tua is now our authority on whether Flores is good at developing a young QB?

We have no way of knowing for sure what Mara said or didn't say about Flores. You guys are just speculating. We know that Schoen and Daboll were pretty much a package deal when Mara decided (on Bill Belichik's advice) that the Bills were their role model.

Flores was probably the right choice back then for HC. And we know Schoen wasn't the right choice for GM.

That lawsuit? You better believe it has some merit. Of course it does.

The Rooney Rule isn't great but it exists because the NFL has a real ongoing problem on this issue and any honest person knows this is true.

Word on the street was that Flores was borderline abusive in his criticism, especially - but not exclusively - toward Tua.  Tua called him out but I didn't hear anyone in that locker room leaping to Flores defense.

However, smart people learn and grow from their experiences.  It would not surprise me if Flores is a better coach his second time around.  He certainly seems to have all the X and O acumen, as witnessed by the Viking D this year and they seem to love him.

This is more or less how I feel. He probably was at times over the line.

People can learn and grow though. Coughlin did.

The Big meatball in the room that has yet to be acknowledged.

Aside from the obvious only one of these opportunities in the world argument.

Who says Flores would ever want to work for the Mara's after his experience with them?
From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

Nobody did.

I took this thread to be purely about what our opinion on it would be. Not whether Flores wants it or whether the Giants themselves would want to hire him.
