I don't think there's any way Darnold will be back. He'll command at least Baker/Jones type of deal and you can't offer that out and burn through the rookie deal.

It's a bit of the Drew Brees/Phillip Rivers conundrum for the Chargers when Brees became a free agent.  He was a good proven QB and Ruvers was not a proven NFL QB.  Chargers let Brees move on and the gamble paid off.

My guess is the Vikings will let Darnold move on.  Good news is JJ has now had a year to learn.  Has to help for next season.

How so? Brees went on to win a Super Bowl and made it to the NFC championship 3 times. While Rivers never won a title and only made it to 1 AFC championship.

Conundrum for a team having to decide between retaining a veteran QBversus letting him go and hoping the rookie QB will step up.

The best thing to happen for Brees.

The Giants should sign Darnold.  If AT holds up, the line is good enough, Nabers and Slayton are good WR and Tracy is a good back.  The defense is still good though will need some depth.  Having a top 5 pick and a high second rounder will get them two more impactful starters.

Is Slayton a free agent?...he may command bigger $

The big difference is that Brees was coming off a shoulder injury and the Chargers weren't too sure about how he would be physically.

In Minny, it's the rookie coming off a major injury but not having any type of proven history in the league to lean on.

Gonna be interesting for them.

In addition, to the shoulder surgery the Chargers had Brees for 5 years and he only had one really good one.  It wasn't until he went to the Saints that he became a consistent prolific QB.  He was simply not that good on the Chargers for most of his time there.

Sean Payton was a big part of Brees emerging as a 1st ballot HOFer.  Had he gone to Miami instead, I doubt the conversation is the same today.

I highly doubt that the 3rd WR on the worst offense in the NFL will command big money. He would be wise to invest his current 2 year contract into saving and retirement funds.

Since we aren't winning anytime soon, I'd pass on Slay and go with Hyatt. Save $$. See if a new QB and offense will utilize him.

And keep having the worst passing game in the league? Hyatt is cheap but if he was any good he would be playing over Slayton already which he isn't. Our next QB deserves better WR options.

I'd rather draft Jalen Milroe with our 2nd rd pick than pick JJ. Both are flawed but at least one can run his ass off.

His best bet is to try and get a 1 year deal on a team that has a QB that can throw the ball downfield.  He has an ability to take the top off the defense.

I disagree. Many here said earlier in season that Theo wasn't amounting to much and same for Bellinger - yet we clearly saw as both of these guys were targeted they in fact CAN produce. Same thing happened with Tracy. And McFadden. We saw Hyatt had ability to break away in year one. But he's stuck behind the veteran.

I feel there is reason enough to give the kids a chance.
