WHY not Pete Carroll?

I have been banging the drum for Jim Harbaugh, that ship has sailed. We need to stop with these OC and special team coaches. It might work for a stable franchise, but not for a bottom dwelling team such as the Giants are today. Joe Scheon has to go, Daboll too. Coaches that have winning records or history of developing teams don't come around very often. Mike Tomlin, Andy Reid, Dan Campbell, Sean Payton, John Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh and Sean McVay are NOT going anywhere.

This leaves us very limited coaches with success Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel and Pete Carroll.

So why not Pete Carroll?

Pete Carroll has had tremendous success as a coach. He won a national championship at the University of Southern California. He also won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. Carroll joined Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer as the only coaches to win an NCAA championship and a Super Bowl title. Carroll won the Super Bowl at the age of 62, the third-oldest coach to win the title. Only Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants and Dick Vermeil of the Los Angeles Rams were older when they won their respective Super Bowls.

Back in August, Carroll told a radio station on the West Coast he could be ready at a moment's notice to take over an NFL team and develop a coaching staff. It is just a question of when, or if, that moment will come again soon.

"Well, you know, I get asked a lot, so I'm pretty familiar with answering that I could coach tomorrow," Carroll said in August to 93.3 KJR. "I'm physically in the best shape I've been in a long time. I'm ready to be ready to do all the activities that I'm doing and feeling really good about it. I could, but I'm not desiring it at this point."

This was in August, rumors are swirling he has a desire to return to the sidelines. In fact the Jets are reported to make a move on him.

Pete Carroll rumored as a head coach candidate for the New York Jets

Would Pete Carroll take another bite out of the Big Apple?

The former Seattle Seahawks head coach has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the head coach position with the New York Jets. Jets' owner Woody Johnson fired Robert Saleh and installed Jeff Ulbrich as interim coach in October and he canned general manager Joe Douglas last week.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt says Carroll "wouldn't necessarily be a long-term hire, but if the Jets' next coach is to establish a better culture, Carroll wouldn't be a bad option.

The KING is in the building

Interesting candidate. Even if nothing comes of it I'd at least have him in for an interview.
I'm with you in that I don't want an "up and coming" coordinator or a first time HC. I think this team needs an experienced Head Coach and someone who will instill some discipline and fundamentals.

He's one of those guys that the Giants - John and Chris Mara, specifically - would never hire, or even bring in for an interview.

If BB is too old isnt Pete Carroll will be the logical argument against him yet I really like him.  He is a culture changer which is what the Giants need.

Wouldnt mind him as some type of advisory/gm role. but he is up there at 73. this is a 20 hour a day job sometimes. how much more does he have in the tank? hes a fiery guy for sure. but what do you get out of him at best, 5-6 years? ideally you want a mike tomlin or a sean mcvay, i know they dont grow on trees. but you want a guy that can stick around for at least a decade or more. Thats my only argument against him.

I don't understand the want of coaches over 70 years old.

Doesn't he fall into the "player-friendly coach" vs the disciplinarian many say we need?

Yes, but he also has a very winning history. as long as you are a winner you can have any style you want.

Pete Carroll will be 74 at the start of next season.   Unfortunately, that is too old for a HC who would be starting a rebuild.

Member-berries.  I completely agree; I simply don't understand the desire for coaches in this age demographic.  Hopefully, we can find a coach to steer the franchise for a decade or more.

MrGap92

How is Pete Caroll too old but Bill Belichick would have been ok?

They're both too old

Carroll is a kook who blew the easiest super bowl in history....

Believes the U.S. government flew the planes in to the WTC...

No thanks
