Draft Hunter and sign Darnold?

I think Darnold will go for a good bit more than 30 per. I won't be surprised if the number is closer to 40. I would not bet on less than 35. And I wouldn't bet on less than four years (3 year out at best).

If you bring in Darnold you're making a substantial investment, period. No two ways about it.

I would trust a new GM to make the decision more than Schoens. No chance they do anything like this if the dynamic duo return. If they return they have to win next year. Meaning they have to be viable until at least December. Their seats will be red hot either way.

Because I think putting all your eggs in the basket of a 21 year old kid isn't smart GM'ing either.

Following the Vikings lead is smart. Sign a Darnold-type and draft a guy. You structure the contract such that you can get out of it after 2 years. Or if the vet plays well (like Darnold) then you have a good problem to have with deciding between QBs.

With your approach, you sign a bum and draft a guy, if the draft pick is a miss (which happens more than half the time), then you've set us up for 5 more years of losing.

If you dont want all eggs in one basket you do what the Pats did and draft a QB in round 1 and another later in draft.  If you have a problem you throw multiple rookie resources at it.  Remember when Giantts used to draft multiple players in one year at a position to fortify it.  It's a smart way.

Travis Hunter would be a great pick IMHO. The Giants will pick, however, a QB with Schoen as the GM. He has to pick need; picking for need is another flop potentially.

And I have zero confidence in him. Does anyone, really? Mara?? Darnold may be in the perfect situation with the Vikings now..but he may pumpkin at any time next year without O'Connell. And won't be cheap as mentioned. I say throw out the lot, don't split the baby.

Who will be responsible for Darnold's continued growth?

Because so far, Daboll has not shown to be that guy, outside of dumbing down the offense and leaning WAY into Barkley for Jones one year.

It does seem to have become s.o.p to not trust a rookie QB in year one? Is it because on average half of those Drafted in Round One never really succeed as hoped or expected? Even more so, that even the top overall picks struggle out of the gate; some even longer? Not unexpected, of course, when they almost always end up on the worst team in League.

Or are we smitten with the fact that after 6 seasons with 3 other teams and a 21-35 QBrec, Sam Darnold has 12-2 record with the Vikings? No doubt that Vikes fans are although they have had double-digit win seasons with Cousins and Keenum who each had 13-win years and with Bridgewater and Ponder in not much more than the past decade 2012. Of course, those seasons were followed by a couple of losing ones.

Some might think similarly of Jared Goff, but he was every bit as successful in 5 years with the Rams as he been in his now nearly 4 with the Lions.

Frankly, I don't think it's the worth the risk of signing Darnold to a costly long-term deal off one good season, as was the case with Daniel Jones, when they can get a solid young prospect for a whole lot less over the next 4 years while giving him a year to learn and develop behind a veteran bridge/backup. That should set them up to fill positions of need: Oline, CB, WRs, Run-stuffers, etc. while maintaining a solid cap position over the next 2 years.

Can hunter play that many snaps and play both sides of the ball in the NFL ?

If not .... And he picks a side ..... is he that good ?

He's super talented, no doubt. But, that sort of thing never works for long. It may help get him prizes and the No. 1 Overall, but it won't last beyond his first even minor injury and he decides that he'd rather not go both ways, or his HC decides it for him once the glam wears off. Master one, jack of(f) only now and then if it really helps and for which another can't do just as well.

Rather than draft a QB in the first round, how would you feel about signing Sam Darnold to a multi-year deal and drafting Travis Hunter? Do you like this idea? Why or why not?

I voted No, but it was to spending 30 Mil on Darnold now. That ship has pasted.


Dave I floated the idea before the start of the season and you said:  No, definitely not. Darnold is a confirmed bust and a liability on the field. There are much better backup options out there like Gardner Minshew, Mitch Trubitsky, and Marcus Mariotta. I would keep Taylor before I brought in Darnold. He's brutal.


I personally would prefer Hunter with our #1 and then go after Ewers or Beck and instead of Darnold, get Jamis Winston or Marita

He's going to be paid handsomely; and I would not be opposed to signing him and then drafting Hunter with the #1 pick.

However, I'm also in favor of drafting either Sanders or Ward whoever projects to be better.

Highly unlikely Darnold would come to this organization. He is a classic product of a good "situation " - sound coaching, good offensive line, good weapons etc. He's smart enough to know his career would plummet again as a Giant.

Like I said before, too late now. Too expensive. Go after Jamis Winston or Andy Dalton for 2025, draft a QB in the 2026 draft
