Sam Darnold.. If he has a deep playoff run and good play would want the Giants to consider signing him ?

Quote from: Stringer Bell on December 29, 2024, 08:17:33 PMThat's not a bad option, Dave. I could see them selling it to Darnold as "you get $40 million now and then still hit FA as a 28 year old."

He would likely look for some kind of gentlemen's agreement that they wouldn't tag him twice. But I could see it possibly working for both sides.

It would kind of reminds me of the Washington situation with Cousins who kept getting tagged before signing a big deal with Minnesota.

He really throws a nice ball and looks off the defenders with ease. Goes through progressions real fast too.

I like him

The QB Tag is getting really really expensive given all the $50 million/year extensions that have been handed out across the league. Darnold will be cheaper to just extend 3 years at a Mayfield like deal.

I know its a long shot.... but after this debacle

I hope Giants make a true effort at trying to steal him

Darnold failed in bad situations. Can't see any way he would go back to that again. Darnold knows full well that a QB is only as good as his supporting cast.

Hell no. He's throwing to Jefferson and Addison. He isn't as good as he's looked this year and he's going to command more money than he's really worth. We need every penny we can squeeze together to start fixing this broken roster. Overpaying for a dude who's been awful every year except for one during his NFL is a suckers bet.

Vikings should keep both

Sign darnold with out year after 2027

and develop JJ for 3 more

After 2027 they can retain club option for 28, resign or cut

Keep the next in line on the roster like the packers do

And some are worse than there supporting cast

Some do what is expected not really making anyone better
Some make others better
Some make pieces worse

I don't think the Vikings in all fairness to their fan base can get rid of Darnold anymore.  I thik they have to keep him.  What they do with JJ at that point is up for debate.  The Giants might be so desperate for a QB that they try and trade for him coming off 2 knee surgeries not knowing how much that will effect his play and having already lost a year of the rookie contract.

But the Viking could also just as easily keep JJ as the backup.  He's cheap so they can pay Darnold and keep JJ around without much of a cap problem.  It's probably what I would do if I were them.

It's not like McCarthy was a second-day draft pick and let's just keep him around. Sure it's a possibility, but if the Giants come to a calling and I think they should, giving them a high #1 pick for a benchwarmer might be a distinct possibility.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

The Green Bay QB developmental plan has only worked for Green Bay, twice. No other team in the past 30 years has waited 4 years to give their top 10 drafted QB a shot. This is just not going to happen. JJ will be traded at some point if Darnold is resigned.

After watching the game yesterday I don't know how Minnesota could let him walk. They have a great "problem"

The Giants would be fools not to pursue him if available and use draft capital to add more pieces

Quote from: katkavage on December 29, 2024, 06:53:39 PMThe Vikings are the perfect spot for him. Of the teams who need QBs, the Jets might be the best for him, but he's not going near there.

agreed, dont mess with chemistry. he has having a pro bowl type season. maybe its an anomaly, but it will be a huge mistake if they let him walk and jj winds up being a bust. he's still a pretty young guy who clearly has a connection with his receivers. better off trading JJ for a 2 and 5 or something.

I don't disagree, but this year is clearly an anomaly. Over 60 more yards a game and 2.2 touchdowns a game vs less than one over his career?

Do you think the Giants would invest $100 million after the DJ contract debacle? It looks like the lightbulb went on.

It's worked since 2005...
2 HOF QBs and currently have their third rock solid QB without skipping a beat

Vikings feel backwards into a dream situation

An injured 1st Round QB is locked up for peanuts with a club option in 2028

Darnold is going great and the Vikings have 75 mill in cap space next year

I'm not saying they will but they should resign darnold and let JJ rehab and then develop behind McCarthy

It's a dream situation and it fell in their lap
