Sam Darnold.. If he has a deep playoff run and good play would want the Giants to consider signing him ?

Quote from: Jclayton92 on January 01, 2025, 09:03:55 PMSo then what were you doing the past two plus years pumping us with obscure mythical Jones Stats to try and force us to get on your Jones train if you knew he was a reach. I remember on 10 occasions at minimum where I brought Jones subpar college career that was largely ignored by you. Also didn't Jones have a top 12 QBR in 2022?

So tell me again how Darnold differs from the Jones situation? Just because he had on more lip stick coming out of college than Jones doesnt make him any better. Darnold lucked into an already established offensive system with elite weapons, and the Vikings still took Mccarthy, only the injury to him got Darnold to play.

Because I never once compared Daniel Jones' college career to Sam Darnold's as they are mutually exclusive.

I originally hated the Daniel Jones pick, but after being drafted by the Giants and seeing his preseason campaign in 2019, I began to defend him because he was a Giant now, as I do with many other players on the team.

Secondly, you may not be aware of this, but you just contradicted yourself by saying "obscure mythical Jones Stats" and then bring out by your own words he had a top 12 RTG in 2022.

Finally, may I ask why you ignored the Baker Mayfield contract that he received after only one good year with the Bucs in 2023?

I'll leave you with this, as I stated in my previous response, that we will just have to see what happens with Darnold and his contract once the year is up.

Im with you man.... I was an avid Jones defender up until this season

With that being said comparing 2022 Jones is not and nowhere near the same as Darnold this season

Jones in 2022 was a good season and I'd gladly have that...... But I don't see how anyone can say its the same as what Darnold is doing now

It may very well be a 1 year fluke ..... But in the end its still 1 full 17 game season of damn near Top QB play

Jones was 1 year of safe, good and efficient play, and I was a Jones guy

This notion that the Giants oassed on JJ once so they will do it again is false.  Teams reassess their decisions plus players all the time.  If they dint inquire about him they are idiots.  As Jess said, they draft s him in spite if having Darnold.  DJ is the bridge QB if they cant sign Darnold to a contract favorable to them with McCarthy waiting in the wings.

I am not advocating for or against JJ but I completely agree.

The Giants thoughts on JJ in 2024 were relative to the alternatives sitting at the 6 pick and the unknowns of the Jones situation.  Now they are based on JJ's health and the cost to obtain, vs the options for another QB.

If the Giants trade for JJ or draft a rookie for QB there is a very real possibility, they would simply be the backup anyway. Especially if a new HC is hired.

.

They can franchise Darnold and see how JJ progresses from his injury.

If I were that coach and GM I wouldn't be looking to move either one too quickly

If they couldn't envision JJ being the QB they needed last year, what reassessment would change that view?

Maybe it has nothing to do with JJ and everything to do with Nabers and DJ.  Maybe they thought DJ would be the one and all they needed was to pair a stud like Nabers with him.

Knowing that they actively tried to replace DJ, I doubt that they had any belief that he would be the one. I think moving up for Maye or Daniels was plan 1A and Nabers was plan 1B.

Thank you, and I agree with pretty much everything you said.
