Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Hyatt has absolutely no value at all. And while Thibs has produced a bit, I don't see teams at the top of the draft tripping over themselves to commit $10M to him next year (or ~$25M over the next 2 years).

If the Giants want to trade up, it's going to require draft capital, not expensive, underperforming guys or spare parts.

Let's hope Schoen is smart enough to realize these QBs aren't worth it.

So if he is not a stud we stop drafting for the position?

Dru Phillips would be #2 right?

If you are drafting the same position in the top 2 rounds over and over because you keep wiffing at that position then you should not be running a draft anymore. You need more patience and can't ignore other positions of need.

Phillips plays slot.  I'm talking about #2 boundary CB.  We lost starters and had to rearm starting with Banks.

It's not like OL where nearly every pick has been a wiff.  Neal, Eze, McKethan, JMS

Quote from: TDToomer on December 30, 2024, 03:14:53 PMBy drafting a CB in the 1st are we giving up on Tea Banks? How many years in a row are we going to draft a shutdown CB in the 1st or 2nd round?

CB is a premium position.  Along with pass rusher,  OT, QB, and WR. Can't really have enough of any of those positions,  so loading up on CB isn't a bad idea.

Why can't Phillips play #2 CB in 2025 as a 2nd year player? What starter did we lose? Adoree is still here. I am not questioning drafting a CB when we took Banks but it seems like we have plenty going into next season with Banks, Phillips, Flott and Hawkins.  We also rank 10th in pass D while we have much greater needs elsewhere. We need a Guard and someone who can stop the run.

The guy they like might still be at 4. All this talk of a weak QB class now everyone is suddenly worried 4 is too low.

Because people ahead of us are also quarterback-needy.

Dru Phillips is only 5'11 and 180 pounds.  Think he's a bit small to play boundary full time.

I get your point about feeling like we have guys who can play.  My point about player loss was before Banks was drafted and thus the need to draft Banks.

We do have other needs for sure.  Will Johnson though is really good.

This year has to be a BPA.  We cant over draft.  Eagles focused on BPA and build great OL, WR group and DL.  I mean they drafted Jordan Davis when DL was not a huge priority and look how it's even better.

They drafted Landon Dickerson in the 2nd round to play IOL when their OL was already very good.

BPAs become starters and create depth.

Over drafting just brings a more mediocre player into the forefront.

We all know this team is stuck in a rut until it finds a long-term solution at QB. It is far less clear that Sanders, Ward or anyone else offers genuine average to above average NFL prospects.

If the Giants have a conviction on Ward or Sanders then fine, trade up if necessary. If they do not then pass. They cannot get trapped into trading assets just because they believe they have to be seen to be doing something at QB rather than truly believing in one. If we do not have genuine conviction on one of the QB then take BPA (almost certainly a defender).

Either way they need to use FA to create a proper bridge solution be it Fields, Cousins, ANO plus Lock or De Vito so we are not reliant on finding a day one starter in the draft.

I believe Schoen drafted for need the first two drafts which is why they didn't go so well. Last year he drafted with the board and smashed it. I'm not as down on him as most but I don't want a lame duck coach or a thirsty gm. So imo you keep both or discard both.

Right now, it looks like Banks is - at best - a #2 CB. He's been far too inconsistent to be counted on as a #1.

As others pointed out, Phillips is a slot CB and could develop into an elite one. He doesn't have the ideal size for the boundary. Plus, playing him on the outside takes away from a lot of his value as a strong run supporter.

Flott is, at best, a dime guy. And Hawkins could develop at some point but hasn't shown anything, to date.

So yes, we do have some pieces, but we lack a true #1 lockdown CB. And as a premium position, that's a pretty big hole.

I really hope we can manage to stay with say the 4th pick as that would ensure us any of Travis Hunter, Will Johnson, Mason Graham or Abdul Carter.
